Did a search and found alot of people thinking about it. Has anyone actually done it, besides Stadler and Alexander?
Did you end up having to dremmel out to get the brake levers to fit??? Any other concerns?

I have the original Carbon X ski bends. I lopped off about .5 to .75 of an inch off the end. I had to dremel out (to my surprise) to have my barcons fit back in.
Did it with mine. The base of the extention isn’t round, so the levers won’t fit in without a modification. I’m running modified SRAM carbon tt levers with mine.
To get them to fit, here’s what I did:
Took off the plastic wedge expander.
Cut of the metal cone for the expander screw with a hack saw - the cone wouldn’t fit into the cut bar end, but you need the screw part for the cable boss
Filed down the round plastic housing for the lever
Ran the cable and super-glued in the filed housing plug to hold fast

I cut off my up turns as well. I sanded them and figured everything was cool due to the multiple pro’s and AGers I’ve seen with the 1.5’s and Profile QSC’s this way. When they wouldn’t fit in, I had my LBS file out the inside of the extensions to get them to fit. It was a litte scary thinking I had ruined them, but everything worked out. File inside carefully, just enough for the brakes to fit in without comprimising the strength of the extension.
Nice drop!
Do you have any problem with fast, bumpy descents?
Not in or around Chicago… But I’ll routinely hit 40+ mph with a 30 mph tail wind.
The drop is 20.5 cm. I’m 6’2" with gorilla arms, so to fit me the frame is a 55cm P2K with no spacers.
Fastest downhill I hit was at my first race on it in Madison last year. 54 mph on a back country road in full aero. I wasn’t too comfortable, but the bike handled perfectly. I wouldn’t want to do it for too long though (hill was about a mile at 8%, so I was back on the flats after a minute, luckily with clean chamois).

Holy Crap! I’m only going into my 3rd season racing & 2nd with my new bike (S32) & I think the fastest i’ve gotten up to was 35… I can’t imagine 54… I definitely don’t think my chamois would be clean after something like that. Sorry for the threadjack… but is that normal to hit speeds like that for everyone? Am I that Slow? (Though, I am in NW Ohio= FLAT)

I meant if you had encountered any problems descending on bumpy roads with the upturns being cut off.
I have a pair and have also been thinking about cutting off the up turned ends, but there’s this one hill which I frequent where it’s hard to hang on sometimes in the bumpiest sections, even with upturned base bar ends.
You’d be amazed how much you can gain speed on a hill/descent on a tt or road bike and even faster if you actually pedal. My fastest downhill was around 55 with a tailwind and in drops.
It isn’t too bad if you have tape on the bars. My biggest problem is actually with climbing/hard accelerations out of T1. When you cut of the upturn, you’re left with 4-5 cm of extension to wrap your hands around. I can only manage to get 3 fingers on the bars, and don’t feel like I have a solid grip. That, too, got better when I added tape.
Find a highway overpass that runs east/west, wait for the wind to pick up and take off down it riding east. You’ll hit 40+ in a matter of a couple hundred yards. (53 x 11 @ 100 rpm ~39 mph)

Thanks for that insight.
