Cutting Edge Events

Anybody know anything about them? Trying to stay cheap and localish this year, so, not too picky. I’m new to the area (STL) so I don’t have any background info on any races around here.

Planning on New Town and Lake Saint Louis. What else should I look at? Any other halfs nearby?

Thanks!

Kevin,
Nice events…somewhat low-key…for StL events you should also check out www.ultramaxtri.com and look into the event out at Innsbrook…but the 1/2 out on by Cutting Edge is decent, rural and safe…

I’ve done the May and Aug races several times, but not the Half.
Cutting Edge founder, Becca, has been a friend for years. She added two parters a couple of years ago and the race organization has gotten quite good since. They make a good team…all are also triathletes.
Sounds like the Half is getting some attention from the Chicago Tri Club - maybe some of them can give you details.
Lake Sara is a very nice setting and they’ve got plenty of reasonable hotels close by plus camping.

My GF and I did the Cutting Edge Half last year. We really enjoyed the race. The bike was safe on some rolling rural roads. The run was a out and back done twice. The run could have been done better but I think it was changed at the last minute due to construction or something. Overall we were both very pleased with the race and would do it again but I want to experience other races. I may be back someday. The race is not that big; if you are looking for something like a 70.3 type race this is not it.

Thanks for the info everyone. I’ll have to see how the summer progresses but I’m pretty sure I’ll do the half and maybe the oly.

They put on a really good race, well supported, everything from spring distance on up. Usually a pretty good size field, but not overcrowded. I registered for one of the sprint tri’s and ended up having to have surgery a few days before the race, I got in touch with Becca and she carried my entry fee over to the next year. I recommend their races, I try to at least make it to one or two a season.

+1 for Cutting Edge. I’ve done the Half and Sprint races over the years. No frills, low cost, clean lake. If camping is your thing, you can camp on the race site for no cost. The half run course was a “double out and back” so you are always among company while running.

I did the half last year (my first) and it was great. I’m planning on doing it again this year. Take a look at ultramax events. They put on races around Missouri and a lot of them are in/near St. Louis.
