Just got my new cover from wheelbuilder and I ordered the wrong cutout for PT hub version. I bought the PT used so I wasn’t 100% sure on the year so I went with the 2006 current, but I guess mine is older.
Seems a waste to send it all the way back to CA from VA just to cut out a tiny bit more to fit my PT so I figured I would cut it myself.
How much clearance do you have between the cover and the hub, is it super snug or is there a bit of wiggle room?
Give Wheelbuilder a call and see if they know someone in your area that can cut it for you. Or…call them and ask for instructions/support. Personally, I’d send it back and ask them to cut it. Just my 2 cents.

Just use your PT cap as a “template” and make it slightly larger…it’s OK if the center hole isn’t tight on the cover. You should be able to trim it with a good scissors or an X-acto knife.

LOL, not sure why sometimes my response doesn’t show…
I think I originally typed, thanks that is a great idea. Will be doing that tonight.
I know this is probably not the cheapest option, but you may want to call powertap and see what they would charge to upgrade you to the newer hub style. They’ve stopped stocking warranty parts for the older style hubs and have been offering pretty good upgrade deals. Otherwise, try using the battery cover as a template, as previously suggested. I also have a new, unused cover cut for a 404/older style hub that might be of interest to you.
use the cap to get the correct size cut as much as you can with scissors then take sandpaper and hold it flat in your, put your hand through the hold and spin the wheel cover until its the size you want. Do it outside its messy. Go for something with a courser grade at first to knock it down quicker then smooth it out with a smaller grade. repeat on the other side.
Unless you don’t want to hassle with it, there’s probably no reason to send it back. Cutting wheelcovers is easy, just use a pair of scissors and take your time.
I’ve had a couple wheelcovers that were originally cut for shallow rims by Wheelbuilder.com. When I later got deeper carbon wheels, I just scored a line around the cover where I wanted to cut, whipped out the scissors and then used a hole punch to re-puch the holes for the fasteners. I actually think my home cut covers fit a little tighter because they don’t have that little bit of flange/lip that the precut covers always seem to have around the outer edge.
I admit, it might be a little harder to cut your hub hole since you won’t have a lot of room to work but if you have some smaller, sharp scissors, I’ll bet you can do it. If in doubt, I’m sure wb.com will help you out.
