Cutting a Mountain Bike Bar for Straight Extentions

I ride a set of Carbon X bars with the pads flat on the base, and I want to try using a set of straight extensions. I think I understand the process, but will the end of the mountain bike bar be the right size for the shifter? If not, what is the remedy? Anyone got pictures you’d like to share?

Try Slowman or HRH Bunnyman
.

I recently did this to a set of Performance brand aluminum 6061T flat bars (carbon are not the right diameter). They work great, and are only marginally heavier.

Did the end of the bar have to be modified to fit the shifter?

No, I just used a hacksaw and it fits perfectly

Great. I think I’ll try the same thing in the near future. Francois had some pictures of his old set-up posted last summer, but they aren’t up now.
