I’m still trying to feel less stretched out on my 2005 Blade. I’ve decided to move the saddle forward a tad. Also, I’d like to cut the aerobars down a bit on my 2005 Easton Attack Aerobars. They have a large amount of bar at the point where they turn up. Reaching for the bar-end shifters causes me to have to move my arms forward and up. So, I’d like to cut the bars back a bit right under the shifters. Does anyone know if I shouldn’t have this done? (I’d ask the bike shop to actually do it.) I tried calling Easton and was put on perpetual hold. Here’s a review of the bars. They’re different than the bars they sell today. http://www.enhancesports.com/eastonreviews.pdf
I had some luck cutting back the pursuit arms to eliminate the upturn, but didn’t mess with the extensions. I had to permanently epoxy a set of Blackwell carbon brake levers into place, but I raced on them fine for 2-3 seasons. I do have a friend who did shorten the extensions on his and it seemed to work. You’ll probably have to remove the material from around the shifter inserts, then re-epoxy them into the shortened extensions once you’ve cut them to length. I can only imagine what Easton’s response would be, but in a word, I’m sure it would be a resounding “Don’t”. Good luck.
There no reason in the world NOT to do it. People cut down carbon aerobars like these every day and I’m sure plenty of people have cut these. The key thing is to make sure you account for the amount of shifter that will have to fit down into the aero extension. If you cut too close to the curve in the bars without accounting for this, you’ll be very unhappy.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll find someone who is a little more proficient in this area than I (which isn’t say much) to do it.
I’ve done a few pair doing the same thing you’ve suggested. Piece of cake, use a dremel to open up the shifter area. I only charged a 12pack each time, probably worth about 18beers though since I also chopped off the upsweep on the brake area and re-routed the brake cables internally.
"I also chopped off the upsweep on the brake area and re-routed the brake cables internally. " Are you referring specifically to these bars? I thought the brake lever & ends were all propriority & already run internally.
I have the same bars & would like uses different brake levers.
