OK, so I’ve owned three Elite Bicycles and my wife rides an Elite and David Greenfield has been very supportive of us both in the past, but his actions today take customer service to a whole new level.
I called Mr. Greenfield for a chat early this afternoon and halfway through our conversation he begins yelling at someone in the background. Then all of sudden, he started breathing heavily and I could tell he was running. I asked him what he was doing and he said he had just spotted an Elite that a customer of his had reported was stolen. He was in hot pursuit after the thief. He quickly tells me he’d call me back and sure enough thirty minutes later he called to tell me they cornered the thief and the neighborhood police squad had been close by, had confiscated the bike for the rightful owner and had the thief in the back of the squad car. Yes, that’s right, the owner of Elite chased down a thief for one of his “own Elite family members”.
The man definitely knows his bikes. When I bought mine a few years ago, I met Dave a few months later at the New England Multisport Expo and mentioned that I had recently purchased an Elite. He asked where I got it and I replied Fitwerx in VT and he instantly said “The T-Class with the black and red custom paint job, right?”
Can’t say it enough, he and his crew are the best.
Glad you could be a part of the action Lars, I just needed to react quickly to catch the miscreant involved. The real thanks goes out to our network of courier friends who were on the lookout for the bike in question, (stolen a few day before Christmas along with most of the gifts under the tree) and called the shop when they saw it and started the chase. (Thank You Dominic ) Bad luck for the kid that he was spotted as he was a few blocks up our street. once he was in the neighborhood it was pretty easy to make the grab and return the bike back to our athlete who only lives a few blocks from the shop.
That IS definitely really impressive and you should be commended, as should everyone involved from couriers to shop owners. A new definition of going above and beyond…or down the street…and the punk theif should be taken out back and beaten…who steals Christmas?? And a custom bike a that…that’s just dumb.
There are many companies that could benefit from that lesson.
