Custom tri-bike builders

Nation,

I am looking to get a custom built 650c tri-bike.

Can you please point me to bike builders that would build such a machine? Delivery time is important, so leave out those custom builders that take YEARS! Price-point is also a consideration. Temperamental builders like Ves are welcomed

Thanks!

Guru would be my first choice - they can do any material custom in house (the only manufacturer to do so as far as I know). The do custom steel, aluminum, Ti and Carbon.

Still have those Hed Deep 650 wheels?

Guru. Mine took 5 weeks.

Have you been watching too much Colbert?

Ves makes some nice bikes…

there’s a guy Cincy near–Bob Duncan; he makes custom tri bikes (specific to long course; short course; materials; tubing, etc). you can call him at his bike shop–wheelie fun.

elite bikes. Best damn bikes/customer service you’ll ever see.

Do you want shaped tubing?

Roark – remember the pics posted from the handmade bicycle show.
Litespeed
Seven has a really big downtube on their tri bike…and if cost isn’t a consideration they’ve got a couple full carbon customs.
And of course…Serotta

Parlee will do the Z bikes custom, their specific TT machine seems scarce.

Calfee has been doing custom tri for a while.

Temple

Lynskey

And finally Guru. I have an Aero’Ti and like it a lot. It reminds me of home. (sigh)

I really really really wish I would’ve saved a little more money & gone with ves. I’ve heard of tiemeyercycles.com, but I don’t have any experience with him.

Another vote for Guru here. This time of year you should be able to get it in a couple of weeks? They will tell you how backed up they are so you can plan for it.

Don’t worry about the bike. Just train more.

Agree on the service, but I don’t think much of their bikes. Any builder that refuses to even put bottle bosses on the downtube (say, for training) is myopic.

Litespeed does custom, no?

Doesn’t it take a while to get a Lynskey? They are really nice…

Take a look at James Frames: http://www.jamesframes.com/frames.html

And Teesdale (he did some of the original Superforms): http://www.tetcycles.com/

They may not be the full-on bling of a Lynskey, but you’ll be in it for a LOT less coin, and quite possibly a shorter lead time.

I’m surprised no one’s mentioned Serotta. You can get any of their frames in tri geometry and the Ti bikes are now guaranteed 12 business day turnover. The HSG Tri bike is pretty sweet too. I have a custom Colorado III (same as a CDA but without the carbon seatstays) and its the most amazing bike ever. 100x better than my car crumpled Guru. Also, Serotta’s crash replacement program is well worth it; I had my top tube and chainstay dented in; they fixed and repainted the baby beautifully.

Aren’t you in Europe though? Why not get a custom Cyfac or custom Orbea?
