Custom Paint on Softride?

I have a softride solo and I’m planning on painting the frame a new color, however I also really think the beam would look cool if painted. Has anyone ever seen a softride with the entire beam? or better yet has anyone painted one themselves? Would paint on carbon rub off or look different then on the rest of the bike?

Paint has a hard time on carbon fibre, especially with the flexible nature of the beam. My recommendation is NOT.

Never mind what the widdle wabbit sez. I had a custom titanium frame in the Softride Solo configuration with matching painted Softride beam from Ticycles of Seattle. I forget who painted the beam, but it never cracked and it looked pretty fab as you can see below. Maybe you could ask Ticycles who painted it. I sold the bike so I can’t check it that easily.

It didn’t chip? Wow. So many times, I would rather leave carbon in it’s natural state as the paint on my Corima chips quite easily. But I wonder if Nytro didn’t take the thing to Earl Scheib…

There was a little sticker on one of the chainstays with the name of the painters. Somebody and Sons. Sorry that’s not much help, but that’s all I remember.

Is your Nytro comment in reference to your Corima Fox? I agree with leaving the carbon on Corimas, Lotuses, Cheetahs and other carbon frames with wide tubes like the BP Stealth nice and naked. The Martec Superbike (same as BP Stealth) looks heinous in the yellow it comes in. The clear-coated BP Stealth looks so much better.

You can paint your Classic beam or Rocket beam slider, just No powder coat and No heat above 150F. The heat applied through the powder coat process will cause the urethane to degrade & expand the Foam core (Classic beam).

Beams can be painted and as you have seen it has been done before. The most important stage is the pre paint preparation. If the beam is prepped right it will adhere very well. If it is not prepped it will flake off.

If you need assistance finding a painter or have further ?'s give us a ring.

i belive there is a additive added to paint that makes it more flexible, they use it on all of the plastic parts on cars now, like the bumpers
.

Now thats what I had in mind Aeromon, that looks really good!
