I have ordered a specialized evade helmet and would like to have it painted. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to send it?

If you plan on racing at any USAT events, I would avoid it as it is considered a modification to the helmet and it won’t be allowed.
really wow, it never dawned on me that paint would be considered modification.

How does that fit with a lot of pros getting their helmets customised for Kona etc? (Crowie especially comes to mind)

I just read the rules pertaining to helmets and can’t find anything that states this. Before I have a fairly expensive helmet painted with probable an expensive paint job, I just want to make sure. Could you please quote the rule or maybe give me a number I can call and clarify?

Their helmets are made like that by each company… I don’t have access to the rules right now, but I know it has been discussed on here pretty extensively.
highly recommend kevin brooks he did an amazing wingspan helmet for me

Pete Jacobs, Leanda Cave and a few others get theirs done by Brooks Airbrush, I believe.

He’s one of the guys I miss around here.
In his absence, AYHSMB!
Kevin Brooks at Brooks Airbrush painted mine last year (below), and is making an even better one this year. He does great work. I’ve never had a ref at a race give me trouble and they check pro helmets at every race.

look him up as a forum user and look at the pic of his helmet.
Bumping this thread up to find out a definite answer if USAT will allow this.
Anyone?

Just went through the USAT rulebook and found no mention of helmet modifications, save the removal of the helmet cover. Unsure if refs would/could check to see if the helmet cover was reinstalled by someone other than the helmet manufacturer, but that just seems a bit extreme.
In my experience, USAT has been rather prompt & curious when I have had a question, both in email & by telephone. You could contact them directly.
I’ve been using my custom painted helmet for 5 years now in 20+ races both USAT and WTC. Never had a ref say a word.
