Custom fit Cycling/tri shoes or custom footbeds

At the London bike show last year I came across the Custom fit Lake CX401 Tri shoe which seemed interesting. Similar to the Shimano custum fit shoe you heat them up to put them on then they should mould to your feet. Looking at the UK price though if you are paying this much you might as well go and get a pair of Rocket7’s. How much benifit do this shoes give? Can you get a similar gain by just getting custom foot beds? What tri shoes work well with custom footbeds - thinking the price of the Lakes I could get a pair of Shimano tri Shoes and also a pair of their Custom Fit Road shoes.

Well I cannot comment on custom cycling shoes per-se, however custom foot-beds are something I have had in my ski boots for most of my life…In addition when I still was sponsored by Nordica there was a time when they were still doing custom foam liners. I can only say that the feeling of having something entirely molded to the shape of your foot is wonderful…the most snug comfortable feeling you can imagine…after the initial cramping / break in period they are sublime!!!
P.s. They cramping feeling my not hold true with custom cycling shoes as it does with race boots considering we all were about three sizes smaller than our normal shoe size…

I went with a pair of shoes from these guys.

they rock, super high arch, 45.4 3E on the left and a 44.52E on the right with a slightly wider toebox on the left.
Very stiff and super comfy. I just need to send them back to tighten up the left toe box a touch and stick on a longer strap on the right to go over my high arch.

Best $600+ spent on my biking equipment in 5 years.

Rappstar rides Lakes. Not the CX401, but the CX330c - the model just below, I think. http://blog.rappstar.com/2008/02/new-kicks.html

I’ve been waiting for a follow-up report after he’d had time to log some real miles in them.

Hey Jordan - it’s been over a month. What’s your take on the shoes now?
