I know there’s a perfectly good rollcall thread out there, but I wanted to bring this to the forefront.
From up here in Canada, I’m hearing a heavy rain forecast for NYC as well, about 2" tomorrow alone. Is this normally enough rain to lead to overflow problems that would force cancellation of the swim? Two inches sounds like a lot. And given the increased border crossing hassles I’ll face due to London, I’m pretty hesitant to set out tomorrow morning as planned.
Does anybody have any new thoughts on the rain/swim problem?
From what we know now, my guess is that it is likely to be a du.
I have done multiple Hudson swims by the Manhattan Island Foundation and done 2 NYC tris (actually one was turned into a du). I have seen many more MIF swims canceled than have gone off with approxiumately the same forecast. Usually there was heavy rain on Saturday however. The Hudson is tidal around Manhattan and they say it can flush out quickly. But if there is any significant rain Sat. on top of the forecasted Friday-Friday evening, then the run off will be huge.
I have tried to track down how they determine the water quality (like is there a DEP test or standard) but haven’t gotten an answer yet.
