Cures for GI issues?

When GI issues start to set in during an Ironman, is there some way to stop it in its tracks, like stop biking or running for a few min and let things settle, eat something special? Or are you just sh*t out of luck and in for a day of hurt?

hi
PRILOSEC
no problems ever…ps i have taken for years, no side effects

also
TMI ALERT!
3x dose of classic METAMUCIL AND OJ

the day before
WITH LOTS OF WATER AND SALT
UPDATE:29 IMs and counting

So, what does this do…create a GI bomb blast before the race and clean you out?

had issues on bike at IMFL 2007—too much gatorade(now dont touch the stuff) By the time I got off the bike my mouth was watering and I felt queesy So----I walked most of the run. Never did throw up but came close. so my solution was just to slow down. Now I take a full medecine cabinet with me–antacid. prilosec etc. Did not have to touch any of it in IMFL 2008

Are you talking about upper or lower GI
If you are talking about lower, Imodium (loperamide) 2 to 4 mg after the last BM right before the event should work
if you are talking about the upper GI, pre-treat with Pepcid (famotidine) 20 mg at the start and carry 1 with you for 10 hours later.
I would try both on long training day, don’t try it for the first time on event day. could get an adverse effect, and then you are screwed.
did IMLP 3 x and had GI issues, this regimen worked for me. hope it works for you.

Will this decrease caloric in take into your system do to slow transit time for a HIM or IM?
