A couple of customers of mine and I are headed to the island of Curacao in the Dutch Antilles, southern Caribbean, 35 miles north of Venezuela tomorrow for a 9 day training camp. The camp is run by Doug Stern of Deep Water Running fame from New York.
I may be off the forum for a week if I don;t have relable internet access down there. I’ll try to post some stories and updates from down there if possible. There is always an intersting crew of characters at this training camp. doug tells me there will be 40 people at this camp!
I’ve never been the casino kind of guy, although last year in LV I won $200! I nearly shit. I’ve never gotten out of a casino so fast in my life. It felt like stealing.
We always go on a mid-week diving excurion and also have a big snorkelling excursion/beach BBQ at Knip beach on the west end of the island. Absolute paradise. This year there is also an Olympic Distance triathlon on the last Saturday of the camp that is apparently fairly well attended. Overall, Doug does a great job and the camp is a lot of fun.
The resort I stayed at in Curacao gave us a complimentary $10.00 worth of chips. Then a couple at the resort who didn’t gamble gave me theirs so I had a whopping $30.00 worth of $.25 chips. Went to the casino the first night and after about an hour the slot machines had cleaned me out of my complimentary thirty bucks worth. I then went home.
Other than one other short visit to Atlantic City, that’s the only time I’ve ever gambled or been in a casino.
I should add that the Power Yoga Guru (he’s on the cover of Men’s Health or Men’s Journal this month I am told) is coming to the camp to teach us power yoga.
I’ll give you guys the report when I gt back or sooner if possible.

The “Power Yoga guy” is Anthony. On the bike ride up to the snorkeling beach (Kinip?), when you’re heading out of town and settling in on the ride, pull up next to him and ask him if he’d like to “turn it up a notch”… and then hang on!
