Why did the team leader give the Giro to a young underling?
No disrespect to Cunego, but I thought he worked for Simoni, no the other way around.
I will give my props to Cunego, he is one hell of a bike rider, and will only get better as he matures.
Perhaps Simoni is thinking a bit more this year. Last year yap his trap about the Tour and get his butt whooped…this year shut up and show your hand when it matters?
I often thought about Simoni wanting to save it for the Tour, myself.

I too thought Simoni was saving himself. He sure looked like he and Gadzelli had plenty of gas in the tank to attack the field yesterday. Maybe he realized that greater glory is winning the Tour rather than the Giro. I think it was a good show for Saeco and Fassa. The silver train sure dominated the sprint. I can’t wait for the Tour, it should be exciting.
This Tour will probably be even more exciting than the last one. So many people want to knock off Lance that you would think there was a multi-million $$$ bounty on Armstrong’s head…
It will be an interesting Tour indeed. Kinda too bad Lance didn’t start his run a year sooner and then this kind of hype would be surrounding the 100th anniversary…rather than the 101st.
i don’t think simoni quite gave it to him. if you look at simoni’s reactions, especially, like not dressing with the rest of the team in pink for a final picture, calling cunego a bastard (i think i remember reading this) after one of cunego’s won stages - the 16th, perhaps?
hopefully with such a duo they should be able to mix it up a little in the tour. i can’t wait!
