I am having a little trouble with the cadence sensor on my computrainer. The crank on my road bike - which I usually ride on the CT - already has a little magnet attached to it it for my Mavic computer, and the CT cadence sensor seems to pick up that just fine. I’ve never even used the little magnet provided with the computrainer on the road bike.
However, over the weekend I dusted off my tri bike, set it up in the computrainer, slapped the CT-provided magnet on the crank, set up the sensor on the chainstay, plugged everything in, began pedaling and… no RPM, spinscan, etc. (everything else worked fine). I tried moving the sensor a little closer to the crank, but still got nothing.
Now that I look at the troubleshooting guide (Read the Directions! What a novel idea!) I see they suggest experimenting with actually moving the sensor fore and aft a bit. So I’ll try that tonight. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
Yes, I have experienced a similar problem. I have found that you need to have the sensor extremely close to the magnet to get a reading. Almost to the point where they touch. Hope that helps.
I’ve had the same thing - As the others have said, I find that you need to have the sensor just a little off centre to the receiver and so close that they almost brush (mine are about 2mm apart). Once set up like that it works fine.
Get a Neodymium Rare Earth Magnet from either health shop or an electrical store like radio shack and set it into the axle end of the pedal. They are strong enought to be picked up by the sensor and you don’t need to tie it on the crank. Worked for me.
I agree with Trianthes. You may need to adjust the fore/aft position of the pickup (or magnet) to get it to work. I don’t believe the pickup and magnet are intended to be lined up center to center. And the gap needs to be tight. Once positioned, mine has worked fine.
…also, make sure the plug end is in the right hole on the controller. Don’t think you can’t f this up if you are changing out bikes a couple of times a week.
