Never ridden anything but my 909s in a triathlon, but starting to question this weekend. Don’t see much a reason to change, but figure someone on ST could lend their thoughts…
IM MOO
A) Zipp 909 - Conti Competition Tubulars. 500 miles and 2 year old glue (Mastik) job. I’d say the bond is perhaps an 8 out of 10. Normann would have a tough time getting off the rim, yet obviously my concern would be the scientific bond. Obviously a nice aero choice, but low(er) confidence due to 2 year old glue. Raced them last weekend in Chicago Triple…no problem. I can repair tubular flat, no problem there (knock on wood). Only an issue of the glue over 112 miles and how much time I might be giving up on…
- Reynold Assaults - brand new Michelin Pro Race 3 clinchers, FSA rim strip, butyl tubes (can’t find a latex with 60mm stem, but a bit late at this point)
Which would you use?
Lose out on the aero factor and flat resistance for piece of mind of the older glue? Or…are those clinchers faster in the 1st place?
In Joe Friel’s world, I’m just racing to have fun…bike split should be around 5:30ish.
(I’ve done 12 IMs…so kinda familiar with where I’ll land)
