not a crossfit fan, quite the opposite actually, but they are dead on in their assessment of FB and Insta in this article. some quotes from it
“Facebook collects and aggregates user information and shares it with state and federal authorities, as well as security organizations from other countries,â€
“Facebook censors and removes user accounts based on unknown criteria and at the request of third parties including government and foreign government agencies,â€
“Facebook collects, aggregates, and sells user information as a matter of business. Its business model allows governments and businesses alike to use its algorithmically conjured advertising categories as sophisticated data-mining and surveillance tools.â€
“Facebook’s news feeds are censored and crafted to reflect the political leanings of Facebook’s utopian socialists while remaining vulnerable to misinformation campaigns designed to stir up violence and prejudice.â€
The statement noted that CrossFit is a “voluntary user of and contributor to this marketplace, can and must remove itself from this particular manifestation of the public square when it becomes clear that such responsibilities are betrayed or reneged upon to the detriment of our community.â€
“Common decency demands that we do so, as do our convictions regarding fitness, health, and nutrition, which sit at the heart of CrossFit’s identity and prescription,â€
Interesting, as only today I received 3 FB notices from three boxes i have used in the past - guess the Corporate hand wringing has not reached the street yet eh?
More Crossfit reasons. BTW, I stopped about two years ago.
1. Facebook collects and aggregates user information and shares it with state and federal authorities, as well as security organizations from other countries. 2. Facebook collaborates with government security agencies on massive citizen surveillance programs such as PRISM. 3. Facebook censors and removes user accounts based on unknown criteria and at the request of third parties including government and foreign government agencies. 4. Facebook collects, aggregates, and sells user information as a matter of business. Its business model allows governments and businesses alike to use its algorithmically conjured advertising categories as sophisticated data-mining and surveillance tools. 5. Facebook’s news feeds are censored and crafted to reflect the political leanings of Facebook’s utopian socialists while remaining vulnerable to misinformation campaigns designed to stir up violence and prejudice. 6. Facebook, as a matter of business and principle, has weak intellectual property protections and is slow to close down IP theft accounts. 7. Facebook has poor security protocols and has been subject to the largest security breaches of user data in history.
And finally, 8. Facebook is acting in the service of food and beverage industry interests by deleting the accounts of communities that have identified the corrupted nutritional science responsible for unchecked global chronic disease. In this, it follows the practices of Wikipedia and other private platforms that host public content but retain the ability to remove or silence—without the opportunity for real debate or appeal—information and perspectives outside a narrow scope of belief or thought. In this case, the approved perspective has resulted in the deaths of millions through preventable diseases. Facebook is thus complicit in the global chronic disease crisis.
For these reasons, CrossFit, Inc. has placed Facebook and its associated properties under review and will no longer support or use Facebook’s services until further notice.
The affiliates have such a strong presence on FB I don’t think it will hurt their social exposure at all. All the while they can look like the “good guy†by taking a stand.
So how are the games going to be streamed this year? Would assume CF would not want to use FB for that per their statement.
I’d read elsewhere that Facebook actually banned one of Crossfit’s diet-focused Facebook groups and Crossfit decided to quit FB in retaliation (I don’t blame them tbh).
Cultlike peddler of pseudoscience vs. “utopian socialists”. Some serious butthurt going on. It’s on!
Actually “utopian socialist” doesn’t jibe with the rest of their claims. More like dystopian unregulated corporatism.
Edit: And I’m a CrossFitter. Love it. Fired up to do The Murph at my box on Memorial Day.
Edit again: And I don’t think this is nearly going to have the implied effect. Every individual gym is going to keep using Facebook. This is just CrossFit HQ having a little cry.
For time:
1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run
In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.

Is the “box” your local crossfit gym? If so, why not just do it at home?
Is the “box” your local crossfit gym? If so, why not just do it at home?
Yeah, “box” is the cult-like word for “gym”.
A few reasons why I like doing the workouts at the box. First, I thrive on direct competition. At home, I’d do the workouts, but it’d be grim repetition. But put a few guys and girls next to me and I will fucking bury myself to try to beat them. And this is mostly about strength work. As an endurance athlete I can run or bike by myself all day, just fine. Strength work, meh. It doesn’t inherently motivate me. I value the external motivation.
Second, technique. CrossFit is all over the place here, and fully deserves some of its reputation for shit technique. But the instructors at my box are former elite power lifters. I really value continual instruction on proper form. Particularly for technical movements, like the snatch.
It’s just fun! Shared challenge. For example for the The Murph on Monday it’s going to be fun working out with all the Marines in my box, cranking up the music and going after 300 135lb. squats. Cheering each other on. Bring on the rhabdo! Embrace the cult.

I’ll let you know. My niece owns a “box” and I asked her.

I’m not a crossfitter, but my brother my brother is. Where they really excel is creating community. I would guess 75% of my brothers friends now come from his box.
crossfit’s management is just like you. they want to say whatever they want on a media platform and not be moderated; tho they may want others’ speech moderated. either way, they don’t care about the health of the platform; nor do they understand the dynamics of the platform. when they don’t get their way, they throw a tantrum and leave.
i think the list of grievances includes some righteous ones. but crossfit knew about the righteous ones before the temporary deletion of a crossfit-friendly FB group. if crossfit had really been interested in the privacy of their members’ information they’d have taken this step already.
i have zero love for FB. but free speech on a private platform is a bitch. i don’t particularly like FB’s decision to leave up doctored videos of pelosi. but moderation of a community has been a contentious thing for the last 10 thousand or so years.

How does one complete 300 squats with good technique?
Not trying to be an ass, genuinely curious how you can keep that level of focus, deep in to the burn of a long workout.
That workout looks fun, by the way. I feel like the squats would be the hardest part.
How does one complete 300 squats with good technique?
The strategy is to start with a weight where you could bang out like 30-40 unbroken while fresh. To be honest, the prescribed 135lb is marginal for me in that regard as a more pencil-legged cyclist. If I get to the squats and I’m already fatigued, I’ll drop down to something less.
My strategy will be to do a few sets of 20, then go to sets of 10, with sets of 5 as the fallback survival position. It might take a long time, but I think that’s going to be common. A few badass types might rip through the 300 in just a few sets, but some people are going to be slogging through it for a long time.
My instructor did say that as soon as he seems someone squat with bad form they get a tap on the shoulder, and then it’s air squats for them. He has zero tolerance for bad form.
That’s cool. I can definitely respect the coach’s approach to dealing with bad form. Having those squats at the end… I’m pretty sure I’d be getting that tap well before 100…

This is my understanding as well. I think Dan summed it up well in his post, above.
