Crocs---why not?

when I first read the shoe count, I figured it was a mistake or someone pulled out some real shoes at the last minute. Then I saw the pictures…

The only reason I can think of to wear crocs at kona is if you lost a bet. And yo don’t welch.

didn’t the company go bankrupt?

/Crocs are ok then

here is the picture I posted on the We Noticed page:
in Japan those shoes are only used to get in the shower (Japanese style shower) or at public baths (Onzen) so my wife thinks it’s the most stupid shoe a person can wear outdoors. I just think they look ugly.

The owner of those Crocs did a 4:02 marathon at Kona. He runs about a 40 minute 10K, and I think his marathon PR is a 3:16. All in Crocs.

Not the fastest of course, but very respectable.

Not what I choose to run it, but don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it.

Because they are the equivalent of sweatpants but for your feet.

Great analogy.
I love my crocs. Yes they look stupid and cost quite a bit for a piece if injection molded foam rubber. I refused to buy them so my wife got me a pair as a present. They have been my favourite shoe for 4 years. Helped me with my recurring Plantar Faciatis problems. I’d wear them to work if they made a pair that looked good with a suit.

As for running in them. hmmmm. maybe for slow 5km runs. Anything over that and I’d be worried about rub-blisters. I have a fleece lined pair of Croc slippers that might work well…

I went for a short run the other night in crocs bc it was the only thing I had at the time. I noticed they were quite comfortable running shoes. Then I came on here and saw the pic of the dude running kona in them.

If you’re a mid to fore striker, why not wear them?

Thats just ridiculous, some things I don"t need to try to knock, such as trying to fly by jumping out of a window and flapping my arms real hard. This is a stoooooooopid idea, chaffing risk is high, as you feet sweat they will slip around, you can easily get stones etc into the through the holes, not to mention the falling off risk.

I’ve seen people run marathons wearing fancy dress, it looks funny and makes you smile so job done, but this was a question on a forum where people generally want advice on performance not on looking like a fool. In which case why not cause common sense tells you it’s just not a good idea.

for what its worth, I did the Vikingman half in Idaho a few years ago, won my AG, and the overall winner finished 7 miles ahead of me wearing crocs and no socks. When he passed me going the other way to finish the run under 1:25, I had to stop and watch… I couldn’t believe someone could run so fast in those things.

They’re kinda’ cushy. No?

I saw a guy running in them at Orangeman a few weeks ago.

Wonder how many miles you get out of a pair?

Sweet Croc thread bump…

I have never worn a pair of these but they look like they’d be heavy. Yes/no?

naw, they’re pretty light. there’s not much too them.

but they don’t hold your foot in as well, nor are they as flexible as the minimalist running shoes.

here is a good video explaining why… After watching this again I even noticed the guy is wearing an “ST” shirt
