Taking some time off from swim / bike / run I broke my collar bone playing hockey.
Dr. said surgery could be tough and wants to wait and see if it will heal on it’s own.
The x-ray is 4 weeks post injury.
I’m curious what the great medical minds (and others) of Slowtwitch have to say?

That is the AC joint, it is supposed to have a gap, connected by a ligament.

I don’t see a fracture. I must be missing something. But, admittedly, looking at X Rays of bones isn’t my area of expertise.
You got off lucky. When I broke mine it was in two places. Now, 9 years later, I still have a bony knob sticking out of my shoulder.
I too am having a hard time seeing any break/fracture.
Here’s a pic of my recent break. Crashed hard during a CX race the day after Christmas. It’s been 9 weeks now since surgery and I’m already back on the bike racing as of last weekend.
Possibly a compression fx of your clavicle? Proximal to your SC joint.

Are you referring to that vertical line near the spine on the collarbone? (Sorry, my wife knows the fancy terms)
If so, is that a big deal?
That’s all i see too. And it’s a very rare location for clavicular fx. And a normal AC joint measures >5mm. It also looks normal.

I think you have lung cancer, judging by all the white located in the middle of your chest. Also, did you swallow one of those alphabet refrigerator magnets when you were a kid?

Sorry bud, but it looks like you fractured your distal clavicle. I’m a diagnostic radiologist, so I deal with this every day. You can see the fracture line right along the superior margin of your distal clavicle (right next to the AC joint). Additionally, you have a grade 1 (mild) AC joint separation. You probably haven’t torn any AC ligaments, and since the fracture isn’t displaced, your doctors recommendation of letting it heal on its own is probably best. BTW, this will take some time to totally heal up. Did your doc recommend immobilization? Probably no swimming for a while…
