I got a Speed Concept 7.0 at a great deal from a Trek dealer I used to work for. Since I was a mechanic there and know more about tri-bike fit than anybody who works there, I’m doing the fitting myself. Before I cut the cable housing I was thinking I’d see what others have to say. I have no spacers under the stem (and yes, I’m going to cut the steer tube) and a -17 degree stem, with a Vision basebar and Vision aerobars with no spacers underneath. So, basically, the only way I can get lower is to use a really steep stem (I’ve seen 35 degree) and flip it over. But I think I’m plenty low. How does reach look? (It came with a 10 degree 90mm stem. I put a -17degree 100mm stem on. I also have a -17mm 110 mm stem, but it felt a bit too long.) Saddle height?
The numbers on the pictures are the angles measured the way Slowman specifies in his fit articles.
Once I’ve cut everything down I’ll ride for a while and make small tweaks (saddle height and fore/aft, etc.) and then, when I feel like I have it as good as I can, I’ll post video for a final look so people can see hip movement, etc.
Before the Slowtwitch crowd gets going:
-The mess on the floor is the tools I’m using while I work on the bike. My workbench area is too dark for the video camera to get good footage.
-No, I don’t normally ride with race wheels on the trainer. I just haven’t gotten around to switching the wheel back to a training wheel.
-It’s cold in my basement (here in Michigan, it’s still getting into the low 30s at night), thus the wool jersey inside.
-No, those aren’t cycling socks.
-Yes, I’m still over race weight. At my current rate of loss, I’ll be there in 8 weeks or so.
I think I’m pretty close, but wanted some confirmation from the fit gurus here. Thanks in advance for your help.
