So, for the first time in the history of the world, there was actually a good race shot of me on the bike. No, it didn’t come from the paid race photographers, but rather famed ST photographer Timothy Carlson in Oceanside this past weekend.
Please ignore the “I’m pooping my pants” look on my face. I wasn’t, I promise.
I’d ditch the Rudy Project helmet and I’d think about ski tips angled up just a touch. The Rudy’s from all the testing I’ve seen test well in about 15% of the people, the rest of the time they are crap. (All you M40-44 use a Rudy Wingspan please).
I think angling the tips up may be more comfy, maybe more faster, maybe not.
I think shave the sides and back of your legs leaving the hair on the front to act as a boundary layer. I could send you some top secret confidential power points from some aerodynamic genius’s about reynolds numbers/boundary layers etc but then I’d have to kill you for opening it and kill myself for sending it, as that’s the promise I made. I’m not suicidal.
Without seeing it though, I’m pretty sure you probably need to paint the walls of the living room to match the furniture a bit better and pick up some toys for your daughter. Just a guess though.
I’d bring in the extensions a bit, it would raise your hands up just a bit which could be a bit more comfortable and would prevent any movement when you need to shift.
Any chance you can get that Torhans right up against the headtube? Looks like it might interfere with brake and basebar but worth a try.
I would get rid of the seat-tube bottle or at least move it to the down-tube. I would imagine having it slightly angled 1) reduces frontal area and 2) takes the profile from circle to somewhat oval.
Now that I think about it, I’m not sure why I am giving you advice before Leadman… How about you put on a t-shirt and some basketball shorts, add a down-tube bottle, a handful of gels and go with road helmet for cooling? Oh and toss about 30mm under the pads while your at it.
Curious: cranklength? Looking at where you are in the pedal stroke, things look like they might get just a touch tight at the top of the stroke, which would impact your ability to get any lower. That said, angles look pretty good elsewhere.
As mentioned, helmet selection. I personally would also ditch the Torhans in favor of a Torpedo mount regular bottle. But that’s me talking.
Pads ~4cm lower (get chest and stomach level with the ground), extend reach a bit, shrug and turtle if possible. Bottles and helmet have already been mentioned.
Yeah, the bottle can get closer. It isn’t taped and move forward. The bike only has seat tube bottles mounts. Could get a more aero bottle, just haven’t done it yet.
I would change that down tube bottle/cage take it off and throw on a single rear cage behind that Adamo saddle
Those aero bars are all the way out hence you seem to “choke up” on the aero bars. Don’t see that often, but maybe your comfortable that way or this picture your climbing a hill?
As you know comfort/being able to hold aero position comfortable for a long period of time is key without fussin around.
