Crazy things to do

Any ideas of crazy endurance things to do? I’m going through a hard time and running/biking gets me through. Now it is especially hard and I want to do something crazy to get away.

Ideas?!??!?!

Oh, I don’t live near a huge body of water so I can’t swim something like that.

How much time do you have to do it?

Any amount of time
.

Take a backpack and a credit card and just ride or run from home. When you are feeling better, take a bus back home. No destination in mind, just go until you don’t feel like going anymore.

Triple century- naked.

I’d pack a camelbak with shorts, a t-shirt and sandals and ride until I could actually change into them. I’m guessing that would be about 650 miles +/-.

Try doing a 100 miles of running in one week, did it once with my team in HS we rented a house in dade city, fl and did it there mostly becuase of the hills. You’re probably gonna have to get multiple runs in one day, a good schedule would be going out for runs at 6am, 12pm, 6pm, and then finishing off with a midnight run. Most people would say doing this much mileage in a week is crazt but trust me after doing two of these weeks I felt amazing, plus it really builds up your base.

Ultramarathon.

When you’re ready to deal with what’s going on rather than run (ride) away from it, try therapy. (That probably sounds sarcastic and mean but I’m serious, therapy is good).

Do you need ((((huuuggggggsss)))?

I personally believe in skydiving/freeflying…Nothing has ever cleared my head or made me feel like the worst day of my life just became my best…Best investment into my life I’ve ever made…my wife would agree.

If you want to test fate or your stupidity level (because of lacking experience) try a base jump! J/K

Hang in there…Nothing in life resolves itself, so put your best foot forward and do want you can. That’s all you or anyone could ever ask or expect of you.

Take care and God Bless,
Justin

I’ve never thought of that!

I definitely will give that a try this summer!

That does sound good. Wish I could do something like that. I’m sure my wife and daughter wouldn’t care for it though. Or my boss.

Thruhike the Appalachian Trail. At a moderate hiking pace it would take you around 5 months (20 miles =/- per day). Leave from Springer mountain around early April to get a jump on the crowds and head North. Costs very little if you don’t splurge too much when you hit towns. I got away with around $3000 in 93, but when i hit a town I usually partied hard.

After six months of this, you will be feeling pretty damn good, physically and mentally. Nothing to do all day but look at the scenery, talk to yourself and sing the them song to Gilligan’s Island - at least that’s what I did.

Thruhike the Appalachian Trail.
Yah… another good one. Pacific rim trail too…

Hey Tri-love I don’t know what kind of stuff you are facing right now but if you feel that you need to do something nuts and have some time to do it them why not think about going on a bike tour in a different country.Just find a place you have always wanted to see and take all of the stuff you need to camp and survive for a month or two on the road.

I too am facing a lot of demons in my life and have started doing some extened trips which are just great.I tried to do race my way out of my problems but found the tri-community not very supportive as the focus these days is more about gadjets, teams, coaching groups and results than the pure spirit of the sport.I was a top ager in my day but getting out of bed to face the day is sometimes too much of a struggle let alone training for events.Consequently I’m out of shape and way over my race weight which has not gone over too well with those in my past life(Ironman/Ultraman)as we tend to be judged on finishing times and not our character.

On the road though there are no preconseptions. You can be who you want to be and nobody gives a damn if you are fast or slow or how much your bike costs. After 17 years of Ironman racing it is refreshing to be accepted and appreciated for who I am as a person and not for my race PR’s.That also applies to all of life’s struggles(apply your own situation). You can give yourself the time to step away from what ails you.Sure it’s is a form of escapism but sometimes we need to remove ourselves completely to be able to find out what was the problem in the first place.

My next trip starts in Sept/Oct and I will be gone for about a year (if I ever come home at all). The next few months though will be hard.

I wish you luck.

Without knowing where you are based it’s hard to suggest anything specific. THe only clue on your profile is that your home zone time suggests PST, I would say ride or run East until you either are at peace with yourself or ready to face whatever has you in your current state of mind. I would suggest either the backpack, credit card run or pack your bike with panniers and ride across the continent as far as you need.

Good luck with your situation, I hope you reach resolution or at least acceptance soon.

Hey no one said climbing an 8000m peak yet, how’d we leave that out? Like Krakaeur in Eiger Dreams.

I think we all zeroed in on the “running/biking helps me get through this” line. Otherwise I would have suggested climbing all the highest peaks on each continent.

Nice thread!

I find the non-racing options to be the best for this sort of thing also.
