I was thinking the same - they reminded me of childrens’ “moon shoes” - fake bounce or weird slow absorb?
They also look like ankle-breakers to me - something I’d roll to the side in and not get up from.

Wow, those are some ugly looking shoes. Look kind of like a cross between an octopus tentacles and a sneaker. Won’t be wearing those anytime soon.
