Crank Length (6)

Anyone got a simple formula to determine what the proper bicycle crank length should be?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Try multiplying your inseam (in millimeters) by 0.21 or 0.216 to get a range of the sizes that will fit you.

Thanks.

Here’s a good discussion. He suggests 39%-41% of femur length.

Thanks.

I’m all for longer crank arms and like what Zinn has to say on Velo News.com. I’ve always ridden 180’s, but would like to go 185.

Does anyone know if Shimano makes a DA 185? BTW, I’m 6’5".

Zinn makes long arms, but they fit the square taper btm brkt.

I am 6’5 and want to go to 200’s

So - what is the problem?

In case you didn’t notice 2007 Campy doesn’t have square taper BBs. I suppose you figure everyone should just ride Phil Wood BBs.

But the peasants have no food…Then let them eat cake

But Campy has no square taper BBs…Then let them ride Phil Wood BBs

Campy caved to the market that wants so bad for square taper to be a bad design…it isnt.

Zinn has Shimano square tapers in a specific size for their cranks, they come with the cranks.

Lennard is supposed to be developing his custom cranks to have the integral bearing design that will make them a little stiffer than the square taper. But, that might be mid-07 before you see them. He does send a Shimano BB with his cranks when you order them.
