Unfortunately during my HIM race last weekend in Belgium my 2007 P2C developed a stress crack on the top tube. The course had a couple short sections of brutal cobblestones and as far as I can tell, it was a little too much for the frame. We have since had a look and it seems the crack develops up from inside the seat post tube where the carbon overlaps in the front section.
I contacted my dealer, and they have been great to work with. They contacted the Benelux distributor and had subsequently started the process the get me a warranty replacement frame. Everything has been great thus far, the only problem is that they tell me my color options are limited.
I currently have the blue version but I have been told via my dealer that Cervelo no longer have any Blue/blacks available in my size (56cm). It looks like I am going to be stuck with that red monster. Yes, yes, yes I know color choice is a personal preference, but for my money I prefer the blue over the red.
I sent Cervelo Customer service a note to confirm this is the fact, but I am fearing I might be losing the old blue. Anybody want to trade a soon to be new 2007 red P2C with zero miles? Only requirements are you must live in the netherlands and be in possession of an equally brand new 56cm blue 2007 P2C. (I think my odds are low)
You might not want to bring a light carbon bike to Chicago. The Outer Drive is in bad shape–lots of pot holes and cracks in the road. It’s going to be a bumpy ride!
You must be the guy i rode through the tunnel with on the way to the race office sunday morning, I was the swede on a white p2k. I´m sorry to hear about your bike, it sure was a pretty rough ride.
Did you have a good race otherwise? How did you like the heat?
Yeah, I was that guy in the tunnel. That little town was brutal, I could barely hold my bars over those cobblestones.
I thought is was a great race, very well run. I was happy with my time considering the heat and it was my first HIM (5:05). That run could have used a little shade but I think they managed it very well with the aid stations.
Yeah, I’m fairly happy with my over all race as well. Was hoping for a better time but my season has been interrupted by colds and broken collar bone, so considering my general degree of fitness right now it was about what I could expect. Good swim on noones feet, similarly all alone on the bike that left a lot of room for improvement and a slow run that at least felt stabil.
It was a fun experience and my first big international race, something that I will do much more of in the future…
But i’m really waiting for that sub 1:20 run to happen before I can feel that I have done a solid race. I had really wanted it to happen in Antwerp and was pretty confident that it would considering the total flatness of the run course. But the bike ended up tougher than expected so I didn’t have much left in the tank for the run. At least I didn’t bonk and I held an even pace and that i’m very pleased with.
