I just noticed a small crack emanating from the spoke on one of my carbon FP race wheels. It goes ~.5" in either direction down the center of the rim. Is it still rideable? Garbage time? Something the LBS can fix?
it’s a not uncommon issue that i’ve heard about FP wheels. That rim is basically dead. You have 2 options. Either contact zipp and try to get a crash replacement rim or contact people who specialized in carbon rim repair like Calfee.
Zipp is pretty good about warranty. A local authorized dealer may be able to contact Zipp for you if you dont have luck yourself.
Either way, though, I assume the wheel is junk? I imagine I’m risking a mouth full of asphalt if I take it out on the road…?
What’s the old ST rule? If you post a “my carbon ____ is cracked, is it safe to ride?” usually means it’s not safe to ride. I wouldn’t ride a cracked carbon anything.
