Help. My buddy just noticed a crack in his frame. He has IMAZ in November. Suggestions?
The bike is a Scott. About 2 years old I think. Anyone know of warranty issues? It was not crashed. Should he not ride it?

Take that right back to the dealer and let them swap it out for a new one…no dealer on the planet wouldn’t look at that and say ‘daaaaannnnnnnnnnng’.
That is…if he bought it new from an authorized dealer…
Did he collide with a swarm of low flying geese? That thing looks dirtier than Courtney Love at the Grammys.
Haha, yeah. He doesn’t take care of his stuff too well. Thanks for the advice.
Was it dealer new?
Yeah, but the store is out of business so we are trying to find a store in the area to help us out. Hopefully he kept his receipt…

I don’t think the shop should be an issue, just a receipt or hopefully Scott has a registry he filed out online or something. Cervelo, Trek, CDale…just walk into any authorized dealer. The reason I know: 2 cracked Treks and one CDale all in different cities from purchase.
Good luck hope he gets treated right!
hmmm… my husband just noticed a crack in my Trek OCLV (5200? from 94ish?). Never crashed. Would the same advice hold? I just figured I’ve gotten a lot of years out of it and never considered taking it back. Bought new from dealer.
Can’t speak for all Trek dealers, but they were absolutely stellar with my 5200 and 5500 frame failures. Apologetic, quick to remedy and loaner bikes to boot. Bought my 5200 in Greenville, SC ~ '97 and took it to a dealer in Louisville in '99. Replaced with 5500 and took that one to the dealer in Fort Myers. Handled the same fashion both times.
I keep wanting to find a Soloist/S1 from a Cervelo dealer so when it dies I will get an S2:) No luck so far.
If you have the receipt I have no reason to doubt it would be replaced.
I found a crack on my frame last week (two years old also). I am waiting for the bike manufactuer to get back to me on what, if anything, they are going to do.
**Edit. Touche…heck if Quintana Roo is your sponsor I would think you will be getting a brand new frame for nothing!
I am hoping but still waiting for them to get back to me. They have been very very good to me in the past. Just don’t know if I will have anything for IMFlorida.
Plastic bikes are a tough one for me now…0-3 with good replacement experiences + 1 debacle on a bike company whose name I refuse to type. Oddly I own a frame from ‘that’ company, but it’s an old alloy. I’m back to alloys all the way around now.
Good luck man hope you get it all squared away.
If the dealer is no help and they offer no option…a great place to try is here: http://www.calfeedesign.com/repair/sending-your-frame-for-repair/
.
if you run your finger over it can you feel a ridge/bump? I have something little on my frame but I am almost certain it is a scratch in the paint rather than a crack in the carbon.
I second Calfee. I’ve never needed Calfee to fix something but know friends who have and it worked great. Calfee is a pioneer of using carbon for bicycles.
If the manufacturer deems the damage was caused by careless bike rack clamping for example, then don’t be surprised,if,you need to pay for a replacement. Or perhaps claim on your own insurance…
maybe the manufacturer will be helpful and provide a purchased replacement at a lower cost, but that’s really down to their discretion.
Good luck with your solution. For what it’s worth Scott were exemplary sorting my frame replacement a number of years ago due to failed clear, coat, non structural… So they are good guys for sure.
If purchased through a Scott dealer (at the time), any Scott dealer should honor the warranty if its the original owner. My wife just got a new Cannondale road bike, and asked if any Cannondale dealer would honor the warranty and they said yes. One of the advantages from buying from an LBS or licensed dealer is the warranty. Of course, everyone’s experiences are different, but a shop with a good relationship with the manufacturer. Hope you friend gets a new frame!

So I heard back from Quintana Roo today. They have reviewed my claim and are giving me a replacement CD01 frame AT NO COST!!! Now that is what I call customer service. For those of you out their who are looking for a manufactuer who backs their product, look no further than www.rooworld.com/. Thanks guys you have never disappointed me with your service and backing of your product.
Sweet!
Question though. How does one ‘warranty’ a frame from a sponsor? Just curious as to how sponsorships work as I have no idea. Does a sponsorship not provide the product or is it just a discount? Have always wondered how that worked…
In my case it was a discount. Hell of a deal, but it was not 100 % free.
