I have the ability and resources to design and manufacture a plastic cap for this blasted water bottle. I have one myself and am sick of washing the sticky off my bike, and helmet, and glasses, and shoes, and… It even got into my brake cable and caused it to get sticky.
I would be able to sell them for about $5 each. How many of you would buy this product if it was available?
If it’s a good, snug, realiable and easy alternative to sponges, loofa’s and splashing then $5 is fine. I suspect I would order a bunch for myself and those on my team.
It would be ideal if the base of the lid stayed on while a “refill hatch” flipped up like a baby-wipes container, or like the lid on a ketchup container. Is that do-able?
My thought was a plastic cap that when you push on the domed center it would snap into place. Kind of like those neat tins of mints you can buy.
Refilling on the fly would be slightly difficult because you have to deal with a cap, but the only time I would need to refill would be racing. 95% of my miles are training where I don’t have the need to refill on the fly.
Of course, I don’t generally drink more than 32 oz during a 40k anyway…
It could be done, but only with a significant tooling investment ($15K min). That’s a lot of $5 covers! I did consider having a small tab off the cap that snaps into the extra straw hole for retention…
You can replace the “yellow loofa thing” with a large pot scrubber - they’re cheap, tend to stay in the bottle better that the loofa, come in colours other than yellow (if that’s important to you) and you can use them for doing your dishes in the off season.
Make it out of carbon fiber, and you can sell thousands of them here.
Somebody makes a clone of the Profile bottle, but with a screw on lid. I have one, but don’t remember where I ordered it, and it has absolutely no markings on it.
