Could Macca be the next super-coach?

The imposing shadow of Macca,Zack and Thanyapura is spreading and it is going to be a very interesting time in Thailand for the next few years.

Some of the best coaches are not necessary best athletes in their sport.

But I see the point Caroline sees some macca value to bring into her SBR. And yes it adds value to their marketing.

Who knows, I would say Macca might be great at helping motivate, learn how to race Kona, and/or strategize, but from a pure coaching and developmental standpoint i simply do not know, but I think Steffan will see improvements moving away from Sutton, his style isn’t for everyone and Steffan always seemed just a bit short come Kona.

This reminds of a quote that I read yesterday:

“It’s interesting that many people think ‘a great athlete will make a great coach’ yet there are not many who would think that ‘a great coach will make a great athlete’. It seems that in the second paradigm we understand that the skills do not transfer well – they’re different domains; but in the first paradigm the misconception is that the skills do transfer well.”

Maybe if Macca doesn’t pan out she can go to Crowie now that he is entering the coaching world http://www.sansego.co/

Perhaps he can talk her through the finer points of breaking equipment or a minor bone if it appears she is not going to finish well.

Well there is that but I think teaching her how to win four world championships will be more useful…

I suspect he will not be any sort of super coach … unless he has an educational background and experience that we are not aware of.(by all means tell us!)
Great athletes as already mentioned typically make poor coaches because they really don’t understand what makes them great … most of it is just genetics … and that doesn’t transfer well to someone who has a different set of genetic attributes.
I will predict this will not go well … it seems she really would have preferred Sutton again if she had that choice … for all his other issues Sutton is a bonafide coach.

I agree that not all athletes make great or even good coaches but there are a few out there…Dave Scott,Mark Allen,Joanna Zieger,Craig Walton just to name a few…

Please sign me up to be coached by Macca. Love the guy’s style and attitude and approach to life. Nick, when are you going to hang out at his resort. i need to make a trip there some time while I can still run and bike!!!

Yeah but that is all stuff where you sign up to go on a pub crawl with him, not to be your coach =)

Early October after I ride up there from Ironman Langkawi…You could always sign up for the Laguna races.

Dave Scott, Siri, Mark Allen, Crowie, Luc Van Lierde, et al seemed to have done a decent job with their students…I would probably agree in that this formula only works with the true top tier athletes. It is a pretty small circle of folks but when the best are truly looking for an edge that gives them that extra 1/10 of 1 percent to put them over the top, guys like Macca and the aforementioned champs that have taken on athletes as their coaches seemed to have worked out fairly well.

The one thing I didn’t understand was that Macca, I think, is basically spending all of his time in Thailand. And yet Caroline said she wanted a coach who was based in Australia. So that made scratch my head a bit… But maybe Macca is “home” more than he implied. Though, with Macca, I feel like home is a suitcase, even after all these years.

Anyone that wants to be the next supercoach first needs to abuse a minor.

I’m surprised it took that long for this to come up.

Easy boys, unless this has occurred more often than I know, I assume this is referencing just the Sutton “isolated” event. So don’t lump everyone into that indictment.

It’s a joke.

Agree. Completely.

It’s a joke.

The problem with jokes on the internet is that the person telling them doesn’t get to hear when no one laughs.

We also don’t get to see who has a stick up their ass and who doesn’t.

I think you will find Caroline and Dave Dellow will end up in Phuket quite often for training camps especially after Roth and during the lead up to Kona.
