Costco: Cadillac Road Bike for $599. Is this a kick ass deal or what?

Curious what people think of this? For a bike equiped with Shimano 105 this seems like one helluva deal!

Its old 9 speed 105
.

It’s the cadillac of road bikes!

Is the old 105 crap?

Is the old 105 crap?

Um…duhhh…ANYTHING ShimaNO is crap silly!

It’s not crap per se. But it’s really cheap. I just rplaced my entire drivetrain with ultegra 9 for about 250 bucks.

…and one heck of a piece of crap!

Not much better of a deal than the Bikes Direct stuff. The Shimano wheels and Gossamer crank are a surprise though. This is actually a decent bike. You know some other major bike company uses that frame with a better name than Cadillac on it.

Looks like a great commuter machine to me. Slap some 700x28s on there and a seat post rack and you’re in business.

I think it’s a great deal for someone’s first bike, assuming that the size is right. Also, as a commuter you couldn’t go far wrong, except for a single speed.

Oh derrrrrr! What am I thinking, this is Slowtwitch and it’s not a Cervelo…it must be a piece of crap then!

For a first time bike it’s pretty good for the price. Hell, I had a $600 bike for my first IM and I remember passing a lot of disk wheels on very nice bikes. Keep in mind that costco has a LIFETIME full return policy so you can take it back in 5 years or whatever.

What I’ve noticed on this forum is that anything other than top shelf products get a thumbs down from these middle aged AG riders with too much disposable income. If you want to get a family member into riding and they don’t want to drop several k down on a bike they may like then this is a great deal. No, it’s not the best and it’s not supposed to be, but it will get you where you want to go. You might consider getting something with a better frame so you can upgrade it over time and end up with a nice bike. Just my $0.02.

Not bad! Certainly, my current road bike is much crappier. I paid $40 for it though.

I am curious how/why car companies get into branded bikes. Cadillac has them, and I have seen a ton of Jeep branded MTBs also. Do people buy bikes to match their cars? I know Volkswagon is involved with team sponsorship, but I don’t think I’ve seen a VW bike.

Interesting.

GMC has branded bikes, as does Smith and Wesson (for police)
.

It’s the cadillac of road bikes!

Right. A mushy feel while driving slowly and completely unable to hold a line.

It should come with a free defibrillator given the average age of the cadillac driving population.

We should get a Smith and Wesson bike for the ST guy who rides with a gun! Let folks know that he REALLY means business now. Does the NRA have a cycling team? Biking and firearms…it could be the next big thing after cagefighting.

I wonder if you can put 22’s on it?
