Cost to Custom Paint

If I wanted to get real crazy and have my bike custom painted, any idea how much something like that would cost? No crazy Martini Shiv like design. Probably just a flat black as I love that look.

I just don’t even know where to start to inquire about this. I’m in NYC. A body shop? Clueless.

I’ve never used them - but I plan on calling them to see what they could do with my future bike:

There are custom bicycle designers/painters out there.

Find the artist you want (location shouldn’t matter), discuss designs, send your bike (preferably just the frame), let him do his magic, let it dry/somewhat cure, it gets shipped back to you, and you revel in the beauty.

If you are just doing flat black and there is little skill/design to the paint job then have a body shop or local airbrush/helmet painter do it. Other wise you will pay a ton of money for a simple paint job.

Most of the time is in the prep. If you are doing 1 color like flat black, I would guess around 800-1k for a good professional job.

PM ISUTRIGUY, his prices will shock you.

He painted my wife’s bike.

Do you know or anyone know of some quality painters for carbon. The paint job i want is simple but i definately want someone who knows how to work with carbon fiber.

I’m looking for something similar to the 1st post: a flat matte black (SC spartacus, Blue Triad SL LE, BMC TT, Specialized Venge Mclaren, etc. )

Most “bike” painters out there should be able to work with Carbon. Paint–it on this forum looks quite qualified, Darin Wheeler is very good, I have had mixed experience and reviews with Spectrum power works, Hot tubes for Cervelo, just to name a few…

If I were getting my bike custom painted, the first person I’d talk to would be Allan Edwards (PaintIT on ST), solely because of this bike.

I had a P3C painted using three colors. Pro job. Even kept the ser # as it was when stock. $900

I had my tri bike painted, 3 color - about $600 a few years back. Totally worth it as they did a fantastic job and the bike looks brand new. My LBS guys knew of a guy here in NorCal that did the work.

Painting on carbon fiber is no big deal. I do custom paint work, and it’s simply a matter of prep. The epoxy is as easy to paint on as clear coat. What you’re asking for really isn’t that much of a big deal as you aren’t asking for artwork, just a paint job. Should not have to pay over a couple hundred. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/383621_10150388806358932_202739808931_8549728_806805748_n.jpg http://shop.smartmount.net/Custom-painted-bike-frames-5000.htm

You get what you pay for. A couple hundred will get you a couple hundred $ job

Funny this thread just floated to the top again. Have literally been emailing Allan today about some work!

This paint job looks like a train wreck.

Thanks James.
custom paint on carbon is not any different than on a metal frame. Where the difference come in is the prep work. Carbon is perplex by hand opposed to steel which can be chemical stripped and boasted with media. There are a few strollers that claim the are safe for carbon but I really don’t trust that to be true.

Wow. That Cervelo is amazing

Is the “Cervelo” painted into the bike or is it a decal that was placed on afterwards? If it was placed on afterwards, did you clear coat over it? beautiful work!
