I’ve got a painful hamstring strain that is causing me to shorten my stride and will not settle down. Doing the requisite stretching, deep tissue and dry needling, etc. etc. but it won’t go away. No structural damage. I have an important IM coming up (last race of the season). I’ll be talking to my Dr about a possible cortisone injection so I can get through the marathon, with the plan to rest and recover afterwards.
I’m being told that if I get the shot, I will have to take 5-7 days off entirely (which could align with the end of my taper anyway so not necessarily a terrible thing).
Anyone out there had this kind of issue and tried this treatment and how was your recovery/how did it work?
Did you do the cortisone shot for your High Hamstring injury? If so, what were the results? I’m the same boat, facing the same treatment decision. Thanks.
Are you sure it’s a hamstring issue? Sounds a lot like an issue I had a few years ago. I did the conventional PT with cortisone and iontopherisis (sp?). Never got better and nagged for several years.
Turns out in was a neural glide issue. A very different but very easy exercise took care of it.
The first doctor and pt had no idea. The second pt (who is saw for a seperate isse) immediately knew what was going on.
Since I had two docs miss a malignant bone tumor in my femur 10 years ago I wouldn’t rule out the idea that my current doc has mis-diagnosed this injury. But I think he’s right.
Still, I’d be interested in hearing your story and what you did to fix it. Please share if you are willing. Thanks.
