…and the PCVI is a training device, the 705 is a mapping device (dont argue that dude…you know its true:-))
Before I could argue that, you’d have to explain what you mean…because to be honest, using a 705 as a head unit hasn’t hindered my training in the least.
But you ARE right about the GPS stuff being a cool advantage of the 705. In fact, when I was visiting some friends in San Diego awhile back I used it to make sure I could find my way “home” when I went out for a ride since I was unfamiliar with the roads in the area
Oh yeah…I had even downloaded the course of the Swami’s ride before meeting up with it on that Saturday. Let’s see you do THAT with a PC-whatever
I thought I would put this here since i am an SRM dealer (didnt want SLowman to yell at me:-))
SRM is releasing a new Pro Unit at the end of Feb, it will be FSA Gossamer Crank based, 8 strain guages, PC 6, full wireless.
2895.00!!
I am taking pre-orders for some of the first units : so if you are interested, e-mail me kurt at pbmcoaching dot com
Ummm…how is that a “Quarc (sic) killer”? By my figgerin’ one can get a CinQo, with cranks, BB, and Garmin 705 for ~$800 less…
according to the quarq site, a FSA team issue w/ BB, crank, cinqo, Garmin and upgraded chain rings prices out to $2410…still less, but not $800 less. http://www.quarq.us/...41&category_id=7
One can easily find a Garmin 705 for ~$350-$375…and the appropriate cranks can be gotten off of ebay for much less than the $300 that Quarq charges and you can send it to them and they’ll install it. And why would you need to “upgrade” the chainrings? Are you doing that for the SRM/Gossamer as well?..anyway, that’s how I do my figgerin’
That’s hardly an apples-to-apples comparison then in terms of cost used parts vs new…if you want to go buy used, of course it would be cheaper. My point was that new, the price isn’t $800 difference even if you don’t do the upgraded chain rings. By the time you factor in the ST discount the gap is much much less than $400.
Actually I like the Quarq and almost bought one to replace an Ergomo on one of my road bikes, but decided to go with the new PT instead since they were out of stock at the time. At that time the price was much more competitive, but since introducing the Saturn version, they’ve increased the price and the price gap is closing considerably between new SRM and new Quarq…especially if and when they start selling the Qranium. If they stick with their $995 price on the head unit, then a full NEW setup from Quarq is going to cost $2820…compared to the $2895 list price on the new SRM.
Once the Ergomo dies completely I’ll have to get something for my P2C and it will be a crank PM, but I want some choices in the head unit besides ibike and Garmin…what I really want is a PT head unit that speaks ANT+
Although I interested in the Quarq, not knowing when they will be available (i.e. no more endless back order) is irritating. SRMs reputation (combined with Quarq’s short track record) is certainly a plus. Can you say precisely when your product will be delivered and ready to install? Are you willing to offer further discounts if it is not delivered by that time?
I am not trying to be a jerk–I just want what I want when I want it
You can also get the SRM in “powermeter only” and run it with a Garmin.
Then you can keep your cost down and have all the same issues that the quark owners have.
sorry i am not familiar with the gossamer version…is that higher or lower than the FSA versions available right now? where does it fit in comparison to dura ace?

I’ve got the Dura Ace 7800 on my roadie and the FSA Gossamer on my tri bike. The Gossamer feels like it weighs a ton compared to the Dura Ace.
