What’s the pro’s and con’s of decals versus air brush? Ease of text? Cost? Removable (easier to change decals or sell helmet), are they less durable than paint and will they shrink over time?
You assumabily have a commercial decal printer.
The project looks great!! You are very talanted.
Merry Christmas
Good point on the decals under the screws. It’s a toss up either way but if this job wasn’t such a quickee (and a freebie) I probably would have gone under. Close up the decal under the screw looks much cleaner but actually from farther away (say in a race pic) it actually looks a LOT better with the decal over the screw head, even in squiggled… I need to break out the airbrush and customize my helmet and bike now…
The decals are quicker, cheaper, easier to apply and offer decent design flexibility as long as you don’t want the graphics to completely wrap the helmet. Plus they are very durable and if you mess one up it’s easy to replace versus respraying the helmet and reclearcoating it as well.
Downsides are that you can’t wrap graphics all the way around because of the curves and you can’t get quite as complex(cool) designs as if you were to airbrush.
I have a smaller commercial decal cutter but will hopefully break out the airbrush again soon…
I think you should create a shrink template like they do for cars…could be the next moneymaker in the tri world…Much cheaper for the customer than original art.
I could dress up an advantage for sure. It’s a bit tough for me to make a mock up so besides some color choices you’re kind of taking a chance that you’ll like what I do when you send it to me… If you have any ideas send me an email at tai@taigraphx.com
I’m hoping to pick up an advantage later this year either to use or to at least airbrush…
