Converting from Shimano to Campa

Anyone tried the Mavic casette, according Mavic it works on both Campa 10 and Shimano 9 ? (Only change spacers and numbers of cogs).

Will it work on my Hed Alps Shimano 9 compatible wheel ?

Will it shift as good as a original Campa casette ?

(I know that the alternative solution is to change frewheel body on the Alps hub, but would like to use the Mavic cassette since it is delivered with 11 cogs - giving me more flexibility).

Mavic’s own freehubs are a bit wider than ShimaNO’s and those using Shimano freehub dimensions (HED) Mavic cassettes will only work on their freehub body (M10) and they do not work with any others that I am aware of. Cycle Dynamics makes a “dished” cog that allows for installation and correct spacing for Campy 10 on a Shimano 9 body. This may all be moot when Shimano reveals their Dura Ace 10 cassette in July, my fingers are crossed that the spacing shares Campagnolo’s.

According to Shimano leaks thus far the 10 speed will fit on current 9 speed Shimano bodies so unless they use a large cog that overhangs the hub flange like the conversion cassettes the spacing will not be the same as Campy (about 1.9mm narrower overall).

I’ve been riding on the American Classic 10-speed conversion cluster for the past two weeks. I thought I’d have to change my original Chorus chain at the same time, but was able to adjust the shifting so that it now works flawlessly on my Gipiemme wheel with Shimano-style 9-speed freewheel body. I love these wheels so the next time I need a new cluster I’ll go the same route. It listed at around US$89.00
