I have been reading all the threads about fastest tires and have been looking to change out my GP4000SII.
I have not been able to find the SS 23c in stock anywhere (maybe my google-fo is weak). I can get the 20c, but not the 23. Does anyone have a source for getting them?
On the other hand I can get the Specialized Turbo Cotton 24c. Any recommendations?
As long as we are talking about the Supersonic, are there any data that compare this tire to Continental’s own Grand Prix TT Limited Edition? I’ve tried to find something but have come up empty.
Hmmm…looks like the TT has a flat breaker. But the Supersonic has thicker thread (if the pictures are accurate and not just representative illustrations).

Oooooooo
SS23 front and TT25 rear… FTW!
Have you used this site? How long does it take shipped to the US? The shipping price is certainly cheap.

You’d be better off going SS23 front/rear if you want to go minimal rear protection. Otherwise a Force on the back is the safest way to go. I’m contemplating a SS rear for IMCdA but I just know I’d get a flat.
Ribble is just like PBK/ Wiggle in ship times…usually a week-2 weeks to west coast.
TT has better puncture protection than an SS and a 25 comes damn close in CRR (likely, not proven). Also, I’ve been riding TT23s for over a year, have well over 1k miles on one pair and ZERO flats.
Obviously SS23 front for CRR and aero.
So, yes, a Force would be better flat protection than a TT but I’ve got confidence in the TT.

I defer to the Boss, TomA
Continental Supersonic 23C (WELL worn) = .0027, 25W for pair @ 40kph
Continental Attack 22C = .0035, 32W for pair @ 40kph
Continental Force 24C = .0029, 27W for pair @ 40kph
By comparison, here’s the results for the “benchmark” GP4000S:
Continental GP4000S 23C = .0034, 31W for pair @ 40kph
I don’t think he has ever tested the Conti TT, but the well worn Tom G. SS tests pretty close to the Force. I doubt the TT would test that much better than the Force but I would love to see the results if they were. In my mind the TT might be the ‘tweener’ tire as its light as a SS with a touch more puncture protection with more black chili and the Force with a touch less RR but a bit more protection. You have me thinking I should try the TT in 25 on my disk.
For best price on the super sonic 23mm, probably wiggle or ribble and as stated above 2 weeks.
If you are in a hurry you should probably opt for the Specialized turbo cotton but they cost quite a bit more.
I have had good luck and durability (it’s a fast wearing tire) with the 23mm SS on my rear disc and do not consider them that fragile.
I used one to ride over and back to a weekly TT all summer on medium chip sealed roads. Nothing stops a goat head puncture thorn.
For rolling resistance test, I think Tom only has the SS and not the TT tire tested.
Bicycle rolling resistance web site has the TT and it tested well for them.
Since both sites have similar results/rankings I think the TT and SS are similar, up there in the top 5.
I am trying the turbo cotton this wekend on my disc and a SS on the front because I could not locate a new SS due to procrastination.
I think Ribble has them back in stock (23mm), I got an e-mail and checked today.
Carefully install latex tubes with patience, don’t pinch them between the rim and tire and your good to go.
I don’t think you can go wrong with the Turbo cotton on the back. I have been running one on my Jet disc and the durability is amazing for a tire with great Crr. I am also using the Vittoria graphene said on my road bike and the durability of the new compound is way better than the previous generation. My only hesitation would be running this tire on an old narrow disc rim. The Turbo is a wide tire and it might look like a lollipop on a 19mm disc. The SS or Graphene might be a better choice in that application.

Force front and back looks like a good compromise for puncture resistance and speed. Any reason you would go force / attack combo over this?
Force is built for the rear. I think the aero properties alone negate it for a front tire…its a fat 24mm. I have been running a SS upfront for 3 seasons without issue.
