Contest - USAT BOD Election Redux

OK, how about a little contest, even if its only for bragging rights on Slowtwitch?

The contest is: How many votes will be cast in the BOD reelection, as ordered by the BRC? For statistics purposes:

Number of annual members of USAT, end of 2003: 47373

Number of ballots received for Fall 2003 election: 3344

Number of annual members of USAT, March 2004: 53008

Rules:

  1. The person who comes closest to the actual number of validated ballots received by USAT will be the winner. ‘Closest’ can be either above or below - this is not the Price Is Right. In the event of a tie, bragging rights will be shared.

  2. Only one vote per Slowtwitch member - if you change your mind, edit your post

  3. Unlike the BOD reelection, you do NOT have to be an annual member of USAT for this contest.

  4. Guesses must be timestamped to this Board by June 13, 2004, at 11:59 PM Greenwich Mean Time.

Oh, yeah - as much as I’d like to make my guess known, and even though I’m not friends of/related by blood or marriage (either past, current, or future)/confidant/employed by/owned by/business associates of/legally bound to/ anyone associated in any way with this debacle, I’ll have to disqualify myself from the contest, to avoid even the slightest hint of impropriety. Damn - there go the bragging rights!

2233 with 7% of the vote going to Mr. Tibbs.

(Sorry for the low number Tibbs, I just don’t think you’ll have enough time to get the grass roots campaign going that quickly)

669 = 20% of the turn out from the 2003 election.

I might revise this if Dan and Lew’s petition also goes before the members in the same election.

Ray

5264, unless there is a butterfly ballot in which case all votes from Florida will be discarded.

If this was The Price is Right, and I was the last bidder, I’d say 1 vote and run away with the new sofa.

Sure, a lot of Slowtwitchers will vote, and maybe some other folks will vote, but the timing of the thing, along with the two week window, will probably cause very low turnout.

The thing that could change that prediction would be if people were actually talking about it at races(I just remembered that it’s racing season again! What a long winter!). That could make a huge difference, because people are actually thinking about triathlon right now. So here’s an idea: When you go to races, Pimp The Vote! That’s right! Hopefully, we’ll see RD’s encouraging people to vote(not the same way as last time, though), but you can make a difference.

Pimp the Vote, people! Pimp the Vote!
