Contemplating cervelo p2 purchase

Hi all, I have been considering purchasing a 1994 cervelo p2 from a friend, so I know the history on the bike. It was raced heavily through about 1999, but well maintained. The frame is structurally sound, with only the usual paint chips/scrapes for a bike of its age. My major concern is the fact that the bike is equipped with a shimano 600 group, and 8 spd drivetrain. The componenets don’t look to need replacing anytime soon, but how long will replacement parts be available for this bike? Also, is an upgrade to Ultegra/9spd possible if the older parts become difficult to find?

If it matters, the asking price is starting at 1800 cdn. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Cam

Well, I can guarantee you it’s not a 1994 P2, if only because we didn’t exist yet back then. The first year for the P2 was 1996 (yellow frame), in 1997 it was white.

You can compare the price with a P2K, nowadays a P2K comes with Ultegra 9-speed group (same level as 600, just one iteration later) for around $3200.

Sorry, my bad, you’re right, the bike is the all yellow 1996. The owner had mentioned the bike was first year of p2 production, so that makes complete sense. Thanks for the input/correction.

IMO, 1800 for a used bike that is from 1996, has been used heavily for 3 years, + has 8 speed componants is asking far to much. I know one of my friends just bought a new 2001 P2K from endurosport with cycling shoes and a computer and payed around 2500 canadian. Granted, condition of the bike, along with the wheels and fork could push the price up, but still the bike is almost 9 years old. This is just my opinion which i have formulated by looking through canadian bike classifieds.

Good luck

David

I should maybe mention that the bike also comes with Hed Jet wheels front and back, and an aftermarket carbon blade fork of which brand I am not sure. Not sure if this will justify the price, but thought I’d add that in.
