Constant Flat Tires on my Computrainer!? Help

I have been dealing with constant flat tires all winter long.

I was first riding it with my Trek road bike averaging 3.5 pressure wise.
-i installed new tape rim after my second one
-i switched out a new tire also

I am now riding my Trek TT bike on it at around 2.5 pressure on the rear.
-this is again on a different tire then my road bike. I road these tires all summer long and had zero problems.

I purchased this computrainer brand new a little over a year ago, last winter. Last winter i received no flat tires.

the wheel on the computrainer spins fine, the contact point from the computrainer to my wheel is also smooth. I always check the tire after it flats and it is also never that warm. When i flip the tire inside out i notice a visible mark along where my tube would be but there are no breaks in my tire. The tubes flat in different spots, there is never a direct spot where my tubes break

I am not sure what the deal is, just tired of buying tubes.

Has anyone experienced this also?
I sent Computrainer an email today asking what the deal is.

Try putting talc (baby powder) on the tubes prior to installing them.

I’m not familiar with the drum on the CT but the small diameter of the drum on trainers can cause a lot of friction between the tube and tire due to deformation. The talc will reduce that.

Do you have Mr. Tuffy’s in your tires? If so, don’t use them. We had a lot of flats using Mr. Tuffy tire liners on the computrainer. Other than that, it could be something in your tire that wears out the tube, but since you said that it is not the same place each time, then it’s probably not that.

No, the tubes that i have been using are Kenda
.

Don’t know if it would help but maybe try a different tire and see if
you still get the flats? You could even try one of the tires made to
be used on a trainer.

What the hell is 2.5 and 3.5 pressure?

Use alcohol and wipe the tire with it before every ride. Also, make sure it’s inflated well, and a slick tire is best. You don’t want to slip, as that builds up heat and will flat. I got a conti trainer tire this year and it is well worth the money! Otherwise, use a worn out tire with very little tread, in other words, slick. Your pressure sounds fine. I have only had 2 flats in 15 years at least of using a CT, so try these ideas.

Assuming that 2.5 and 3.5 is bar, then you are way too low with your tire pressure and you are giving yourself pinch flats.

what do you mean by “Bar”? the 2.5 and 3.5 is the number which the computrainer is calibrated to.

my last flat was on the top of the tube. I have not seen a pinch directly on top.

Bar is a unit of pressure. The 2.5 / 3.5 numbers you see on the unit are generally referred to as indicators of the press on force and not pressure. I had a flat on the top of the tube after recently putting on a Conti Home Trainer tire. Changed it out. No problems so far with the new tube, CT and CHT tire. Cause unknown. Make sure you have the tire pressure right.

are you taking the pressure off the tire when you aren’t riding? I had left the tension cranked on between rides and got several flats…none since I started unscrewing the thingy after each ride.

Replace the rim tape on the back wheel, making sure it is the correct width. I had this exact problem and finally determined that the rim tape was too narrow for the wheel I was using it on (the rim tape was stock with the wheels, which makes one wonder) and was shifting around.

Sorry, I’m not familiar with the CompuTrainer and thought you were referring to the inflation pressure of the tire.
Really give serious thought to swapping out your rim strip, and make sure you’ve got 100lbs of pressure for each ride.

why are you doing 2.5-3.5? Doesn’t the CT manual recommend something around 2.0?
