Connecticut Area Triathletes - Where do You Shop for triathlon gear?
Online, at least if you live in central CT. I think the closest thing we have to a tri shop in the greater hartford area is Cycling Concepts. Admittedly I have not been in there in a number of years and I think they have been growing their triathlon presence.

I’ll second the online part (all3sports.com being my favorite) as the pickings are fairly slim. That said there are some shops starting to move into the Tri scene.
Fleet Feet in West Hartford (they rock for running) are starting to stock some stuff.
Bethel Cycle is probably the furthest along as far as tri stuff is concerned.
Cycling Concepts, I haven’t been there but they apparently are in the game too.
Bicycle Works in Middlebury, small shop but nice guys who support area races/clubs.
In the end I don’t think there’s any tri shop in the state it’s all either bike or running shops with inventory.
Planning on visiting?
Online, TargetTraining in Westport, Zanes in Branford, Outdoor sports in Wilton, Soundrunner in Madison or Branford…depends what I need. Work in Fairfield County but live in New Haven County…
I agree with the poster before me, mostly online (here on ST, actually). When I do go to a store, I go to Cycling Concepts. They have two locations, one in Glastonbury and one in Rocky Hill, which are both in the middle of the state.
Bethel Cycle also carries some tri gear.
Got my bike at Target 2seasons ago… Wetsuit online from XTerra… bike stuff from performance and ProBikekit
Sneakers I get through my in law at cost. running apparel just… wherever- Bobs mostly. socks from Marshalls.
Its so much cheaper online- if I dont need to try it on- I’ll just grab it from the interweb… or I’ll call and get in contact with whoever is selling the stuff (as was the case with the wetsuit- due to my lanky build)
anything else?
TargeTraining Tri & Cycle in Westport
.
Bethel Cycles awesome bikes and really good guy’s. Head mechanic their is a whizz. Brought my last 3 bikes there and no complaints at all. They do get very busy in summer though…
Just curious - Why - are you moving?
Pedal and Pump Mulitsport in Darien for bikes, wheels, garmins and most other bike related or expensive products. Also for CT training.
Speedousa.com for swimming gear.
Roadrunnersports.com or runningwarehouse for running stuff.
SBRshop in NYC for my wet suit a few years ago.
Other internet stores for random stuff.
when I lived in Storrs, CT I shopped online nothing by me at the time
.
- Trek Store in Fairfield has wetsuits, nutrition, accessories (and bikes too)
- Target Training has it all, plus running shoes & high-end stuff (Bont, Castelli etc)
- Cycle Center of Stamford is a big shop, the manager is certified Specialized BG fitter - really friendly staff and great selection.
- Bethel Cycle same thing, further drive for me but I go there because the owner is a nice guy

TargeTraining is a great shop in CT. Sponsor of mine as well. Jeff Sparling, the manager, has a lot of background in fit (mostly road, tho), but they have a nice selection of top quality stuff. No BS products.
Target Training in Westport for Immediate Needs - Team is awesome. Top of the line products onsite. They have everything you need for triathlon from wetsuits to bikes to running shoes. All training and electronics too and recovery items and nutrition. Coaching and training center and VO2 testing.
Stamford Cycle Center is really good at Tri Bike fits.
Dave’s Cycles in Cos Cob is great for emergency repairs on the bike. Ask for Glen. If you have a problem with the bike you can’t figure out, Glen will take care of you.
Signature Cycles in Greenwich for top of the line road bikes.
Class Cycles for Felt Bikes
R&A Cycles in Brooklyn, NY for Look bikes and anything that is rare and exotic.
www.trisports.com - for anything I can’t find locally.
Threads and Treads in Greenwich for running gear.
Darien Sports shop will be carrying Zoots and they have VFF and “fancy” clothes.
Last but not least, if you have a customization you need done to your bike - Ed Torres in Norwalk. The dude is amazing. A true craftsman and artist with bikes.
But I really have no need to deviate from Target Training.
Online for anything tri. Last minute pickups from Mystic Cycle Centre or Brumble Bikes. Outside of Fairfield county there are no ‘real’ shops.
When I lived nearby (Westchester NY), I would buy my “gear” at Threads N Treads in Greenwhich (southern Fairfield Cnty). Mickey is a good guy who put on alot of nice local races so I supported his store. Sort of a hybrid like alot of running stores. THat was about 15yrs ago though. Bikes is another story similar to the other poster who had the long list.
