Congrats to my good friend Chris McDonald. It looks like he is going to win his first Ironman today in Kentucky. It couldn’t go to a more deserving guy. He works harder than anyone in the sport…period. His site is www.trimacca.com
An AWESOME day indeed for Chris!
He did it on this monster!!! Maybe Triathlete Mag had a premonition?

but but… H3 wheels!!
but but… wheel cutout gap!!
seriously - Congratulations Chris!
McDonald wins!
RACETIME: 08:36Chris McDonald used to play field hockey. He didn’t take up this sport until 2001. He did his first Ironman in 2002. He became a pro in 2004.
Today he became an Ironman champion … and he enjoyed every minute of this finishing chute as he walked through it an enjoyed the huge roar of the crowd.
“I just went for it,” he just told the crowd.
He actually used a HED Disc at Louisville! last minute flown in from HED after looking at the course!
hey any idea what happened to Sergio??!! btw nice run by McDonald who came from behind to win
We were discussing on our run up in Ned today that maybe we should look into living a bit of the summer up there. ![]()
Yea Chris! I’m thrilled for him.

So Jason, is it true he’s going to make it out for Savageman? If so, are you gonna have him on the tri bike or road bike?
Hes on the start list! Not sure if hell be on his 496 or 396 yet!
An AWESOME day indeed for Chris!

That bike is Savage!!..and so too was Chris bike ride today…actually it looks like his swim and run looked like they ruled as well
Congratulations to Chris! That was one heck of an awesome performance and great consistency across all disciplines.
We’re looking forward to having Chris and Marilyn at SavageMan, and they are prominently displayed as 2 of our Featured Athletes! http://www.savagemantri.org/AthleteBios.html
As far as bike selection goes, aerodynamic advantage should play only a small factor in any decision. Of far most importance is comfort and handling on climbs and descents - some very technical. Adequate gearing is a huge factor, but that obviously can be accomplished on any bike. The 1st 6 miles and the last 8 are rolling and can be ridden in aerobars, as can some of the long descent into Westernport. But for the rest of the course, aerodynamics really aren’t a factor. Put a gun to my head and I’d recommend a road bike with clip-ons.
The course reviews from folks who have headed out to pre-ride at http://www.createforum.com/savageman give a sense of what’s in store for Chris and Marilyn. I can’t wait to see them make mincemeat of that course and The Wall.
Chris looked very good indeed. I will post some pics of him and others tomorrow.
