Congrats to Hester

Devon Hester, by all accounts a pretty good guy, has passed Deion Sanders for returns for TD.

Wish he could have done it in Chicago.

He is electrifying. Would probably have a couple more if they hadn’t moved up the kick-off line.

I would take any one of our receivers over him though and with his age he was too expensive to keep around. . . .He also seemed to be washed up the last few years.

this is true - wish he did it in a bears uniform though

we have 0 return game atm

Why the hell would Lovie Smith kick the ball to Hester? That makes no sense. Kinda like keeping Rex Grossman in a winnable Super bowl. Not the smartest coach. Hester is too one dimensional now. In his prime he was a lot of fun to watch.

I’m not sure how he’s more one dimensional now than he ever has been. He returned a kick tonight and scored a TD on an end-around. He was never a big part of the receiving game in Chicago.

Smart coaches won’t kick to him.

That was true 5 years ago. I’m not convinced it still is. Yeah, he ran one back last night, but he’s been pretty quiet in recent years.

Went to Miami while he was on campus… Compared to the rest of the playmakers at Miami in the early 2000s, he was incredibly quiet, humble, respectful and was one of the few players I actually saw go into class consistently. The other being Andre Johnson (a little before my time) who is an incredible person as well.

Some of the best roll models are the ones you never hear about or from. He and Andre Johnson are two all-pros (and former canes) who I absolutely respect for their quiet demeanor and humbleness.

Loved the homage to Deon last night as well, that was great!

Tinfoil hat theory: He wanted to get him the record.

I seem to only remember him as a returner as well, but check out his stats http://www.nfl.com/player/devinhester/2506897/careerstats, he actually had some pretty productive seasons in the slot pre-2011.

IIRC, he almost ran 3 back last night.

I didn’t see a stat line for drops, fell down, ran the wrong route. He really was not a good receiver.

He’s still a talented returner and a weapon, but I don’t think he’s still in the “don’t kick to him” category unless your special teams are sub-par.

That guy was a lot of fun to watch in his prime. Personal favorite play of mine:

Don’t know anything about that, it was a surprise to me that he has ever done something outside of returning, but he had a few pretty productive seasons early in his career. Had to have some value. He’s been completely useless outside of returns the last few years.
