Anyone successfully running the CT software on a laptop connected to a
docking station? MY CT has worked just fine on my laptop in the past.
Recently I hooked it up to a docking station to replace my prehistoric
desktop and now the CT software won’t run. Can’t find any solutions on
racermate’s forum and their support has not responded to me yet. I
could disconnect from the docking station when I want to use my CT, but
that is not ideal. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
did you load all the appropriate drivers? they’re available on the Racermateinc website
If you mean:

Then yes.
I wonder if switching to a FTDI Adapter would help? Seems weird to me that my existing set up works fine when plugged in directly to the laptop, but not when hooked into the docking station.
The software itself won’t run or it won’t recognize the computrainer?

3d starts, runs a bit shaky, then loses all communication to the handlebar controller about 5 minutes into a ride. Coaching software won’t run at all. Any attempt to open an erg file results in a fatal error.
is the communications cable plugged into a USB port on the docking station, or on the laptop? i use a USB port on my laptop and haven’t had any problems.

I’ve tried it both ways. If the laptop is not connected to the docking station, all works. As soon as I connect the laptop to the docking station the fatal error occurs.
have you checked the forums on the racermate website? usually the software developers will answer your questions directly. I’d go there first before asking on slowtwitch.

That’s the first thing I did, as well as email them. No response yet. Perhaps due to it being the weekend. Since ST is “open” on weekends and has other CT users I was hoping I might find someone who has dealt with this before.

Im not sure if this will help at all.
I have a similar situation but it is only when i am running to many things at once on my laptop. Too many is also a relative term.
This normally happens when i have powerpoint open and CT or i am trying to run a movie from my computer and running the computrainer at the same time.
That causes the same symptoms. The only thing that i can figure out is when memory is being used for other programs it greatly decreases the amount of information that can travel over the USB port.
Now my other guess is that that the docking USB port may be crappy and can’t transfer information fast enough. The CT seems to use a lot of memory for what it is which kils my laptop.
Maybe that will give you some ideas.

This suggests that the source of your problem is with the docking station port hardware, or with the driver that is running on that docking station port, which might not be exactly the same driver that is assigned to the laptop port you are using. It could also be that the port chip inside the docking station is not the same as it is in your laptop. The CT serial port code places unusual demands on serial and usb ports and their associated drivers (according to racermate tech support and sales folks my tri team has shared booth space with at various expos over the years).
Maybe updating the driver when everything is hooked up via the dock but before the CT software starts might help.
