Does anyone have a unique custom base for their computrainer like the one above? I was thinking of making something which will hold my remotes for the tv and maybe a drink stand and what not. Any ideas or pictures of yours?
M~
I took the base plan as you referenced but changed a little. Definitely, radius the rear corners. The drawing shows 90 degree corners in the back and this would destroy a toe. I used 3/4 inch black pipe (avail at local home centers) instead of the copper, easier to work with, threaded instead of glue joints and it comes apart easier when you decide to move this big platform. I’d spend some time thinking of the surface material. I used scrap carpet glued down. It’s quiet, looks good; painted or scrap vinyl might be easier to wipe up sweat and grease. Hopefully your cables from computrainer are long enough to run under the platform and up the pipe to the controller. This is a huge bonus so you don’t have to trip and snag on those wires when getting on and off.
A while back there were several pics posted on the yahoo computrainer group of bases that others have made, some were elaborate, some simple.
For the surface material I used one of the big floor mats you see at the entrance to buildings. Cost something like $10 at Home Depot. Flipped it over and the rubber side is up. Waterproof and cleans up with a wet towel. No lingering odor problems like you may get with carpet or bare wood.
With another typhoon on its way towards us I may have to do my last 4-hr. ride before IMC indoors. I sure hope not, though. During last week’s typhoon (we’ve had one three out of the last four weeks in a row) I did 80 min. on the CT and it felt like an eternity. Long gone are the days when I would do most of my riding indoors.
Oh, and I just use kids’ playroom piece-together mats under my CT to keep it from slipping on my marble floors, and I mop up afterwards.
