Compression vs WTC.... Compression wins for now

My sources tell me WTC is reversing their ruling and will readdress at a later date. More to come…

my understanding is that the WTC was attempting to enforce visible age markings on the lower leg – WTC was not saying no to calf garments, they were saying no to anything that was hiding the age markings. I think people (myself included) jumped to the conclusion that compression socks were banned. I have no problem writing my age on my socks – I do so all the time and it’s clearly legible (for weeks and months).

Whether our age should be on our calves in the first place (and whether you should be penalized if it not) is an entirely different topic … I happen to think age markings are silly but it doesn’t bother me either to have it done. The point is to HTB – Have fun, Tri hard, & Be kind. World peace ain’t at stake.

read the article on the front page… no calf covering of any kind… regardless of temp, rain, snow, etc…

There is no calf markings at Kona this year.

WTC needs some serious PR help fast. If your going to make a stupid decision, atleast stand behind it, or else stuff like this happens. WTC def. has some egg on the face right now.

“There is no calf markings at Kona this year.”

Well crap, I was going to fly to Kona and work as a volunteer at the remarking station at mile 17. So much for that now.

Good Grief!..just mark the back of the legs above the socks and under the shorts!..is this so fricking hard to do?!

It actually shows that the WTC listens to input from their customers and is willing to admit when they made a mistake, and correct it.

Now if only they would listen to the important issues such as:

  1. Drafting/Penalties - making them actual penalties instead of restful breaks.
  2. WAY too many people in their races and ever increasing.

So why not go to the customer 1st?

i believe this all started with the ‘consumers’ complaining that they couldn’t see age group markings on their competitors. We are quick to jump on WTC for this but it’s the age group athletes that complain. WTC tried to address it, then MORE athletes and companies complained. So what if it takes a few iterations to get it right. in the end some folks will be happy, others will not.

Of all the complaints lodged at WTC by “customers”, they decide to do something about calf markings? Did obstruction of calf markings ever even make a thread on ST?

Ridiculous. There is only one real issue WTC has to address…drafting. Everything else is just background noise and wasting everyone’s time.
