Compression Socks (3)

Anyone tried them? Saw an add for them in Triathlete Magazine (receoverysock.com) and was wondering if they were actually helpful for speeding post-race/workout recovery.

paula radcliffe wore oxysocks.

I think jordan rapp wears them

Sugoi has a super nice set coming out next fall! super duper nice, right and left specific socks, engineered knit type construction (compression zones, padding zones, flexibility zones).

Plus, as they are lime green and shades of grey if you wear them with the right tri suit people will positively stop and stare at you then start compusively laughing and pointing:( I’m telling you, you gotta be careful with that knee high sock fashion…

I was recovering from a partial achilles tear last spring and wore these socks. They felt good for sure…I do believe they helped me recover but maybe it was all in my head?

They have a sock and a recovery/travel tight. Both have a little blurb about 'em in the August issue of Triathlete, page 82. I’m using the tight during my flights this weekend. Hopefully it will help prevent the annoying ‘jet lag kankles.’

Any word on these Sugoi socks Tai?

I may just order the VitalSox from TriSports, but if the Sugoi ones were coming soonish I might wait based on your brief review.

I just hope that I’m not wearing them when I feel the “need to go”. That would be an expensive movement.

no word but they are in the Spring 08 catalog. Need to call them tomorrow, will see what I can find out.

I have a pair. They are cool and feel good, but I only wear them in the house because I fell that if I can’t run a 2:20 marathon, I shouldn’t be wearing them.

Oh well, i like wearing them in front of the mirror and dreaming!

yeah, those socks are pretty trippy looking with the wrong outfit;) I was part of the Sugoi photo shoot for those and at one point was wearing the floral tri suit they have with the socks while working on a bike in front of a bright red barn, anyways, the owner of the barn couldn’t stop laughing and the photographer finally refused to shoot anymore I looked so ridiculous;) They sure do feel nice though. I’m hoping to get a pair before my next trip for the flight.

Just wore these on the flights to/from chicago - and didn’t swell at all for the first time ever. And you’re right, people laughed. I thought the miniskirt might somehow help it fly. It didn’t.

I’ve been using Scholl flight socks for a few years now whenever I fly long-haul and never had a problem. I’ve just bought some for “recovery” as i was just about convinced they would aid recovery.
I wasn’t so sure about use during training/racing but the above link suggests there might be something in it and, guess what, Chris McCormack was wearing them on the bike and run at IM Louisville at the weekend.

I have started to wear the CEP brand out for Europe. They are expensive at $80 a pair, but I feel are worth it. Oxysocks are a good alternative that is less expensive, but they are a little bit thicker.

Do they work? I think so, so do some pretty fast people. But I did hear P.Reid at Canada say that “it was in your head,” when referring to that question. Non of the top guys wore them in Hawaii last year except Timo. BUT, that doesn’t mean much, as it seems more and more are starting to wear them.

If you do get them, they take a while to put on in transition and you must take your chip off, put the socks on and then put your chip back on.

As with everything, it is individual. Good luck.

I’ve been wearing them for about five years on a regular basis. Merrill used to make them in all different colors (black, navy, brown, etc). I have found them to be particularly helpful in recovering from hard run workouts. They keep the blood circulating all day at work while I sit at my desk. When I come home and take them off my legs are refreshed and don’t feel sore or achy.

I literally wear them everyday.

I’ve been wearing them for flights and long car journeys for the last 4 years. Started with the scholl ones and then upgraded to some medical ones after reading a post that went into considerable detail about the wide range of “compressibility” and hence effectiveness of various brands on the market. I noticed a big differnece between scholl’s and the medical spec ones. It’s well worth doing a search posts for anyone that is interested in buying.

I appreciate that you are happy with yours John, the post is mainly for those that haven’t yet splashed the cash.

What brand did the IMLOU winner wear? They look much thinner than oxysocks; which I have, but would never dream of racing in.

Chris wore CEP’s
.

I have used them once this summer when we did a race in northern France (I am a road racer) and had to get right into our teamcar and travel back to Denmark afterwards. They worked WONDERS! I really like them - being cramped up in a car after a hard race is HARD on your legs, but these socks kept the blood flowing - REALLY NICE

Just wait till you see me on the run in Kona wearing my knee high CEP socks. Done my last few long runs and track workouts in them. And you thought the people on the plane were lauging. I can’t wait to hear the comments on Ali’i. Maybe I’ll wear them on the bike too. Total money. Trying them out in the Santa Cruz half and then bustin’ out with them in Kona. Hell YEAH!!!
