Compression Socks? (1)

Can someone tell me about compression socks that I have seen around lately. What they do? Where you get them? Is it something that you can benefit from?

I have a pair of CEP Running O2 Max socks. I wear them on my feet but they cost an arm and a leg. I really like running and biking in them, but they are hard to put on in T1 when my feet are wet. A couple of months ago I did a Tri in Chili and so I spent something like 24 hours on jets and hanging out at airports going each way. I wore them going and coming back and were very happy with the way they felt and being in the old guys division (M55-59) I like the DVT protection that comes with them on jet travel. Good luck at the races, Tim

Hello,
you can get a lot of info here. And also here how to put them on in T1 - yes T1. If you want to have the full benefit of compression sox you should put them on in T1.
Just have a look at Bella, she wears them during the bike as well, just like Petr did.

I just bought the sls3’s but I haven’t wore them yet. I tore my Achilles last year coming back this year my calves get burnt out and are sore for a couple days after long runs or harder efforts. I am hoping the socks help. Truthfully I haven’t wore them yet because I still can’t believe that I spent almost $60 on a pair of socks, and I keep hoping for some testimonial to assure me that they will help.

I have been using them, I hurt my Soleous muscle a few months back and it has kept my running volume pretty low which in turn means my calves get sore. I have bothe the CEP and the SLS3 and hey are both nice, I haven’ biked in them but I will be running with them at IMAZ this year. The only reason I don’t bike ith them is that I dont want to get chain grase on a pair of 60 dollar socks (i’m not sponsored like petr vabrousek). All in all, they do seem to help with recovery and they are also really nice for travelling. They feel pretty good to when I run in them. I expect it to becoe pretty fashionable, at a swim race last weekend, I saw a few folks wearing them, just walking around.

I forget the exact price, but I think my CEPs were about the same by the time I paid shipping. This past weekend I did a Duathlon (5K run, 13.5 mile bike, 5K run, all very hilly) and was very glad to have worn them. Besides the price I really think the only down side is how long they take to put on in T1 when my feet are wet. For something like a half or full Ironman they are probably worth the time loss of getting them on, but for a sprint or Oly Tri I don’t think they would be worth the time loss. Tim

I wear the cheap ones from the drug store to bed…
they help me recover

I was surprised how many people wore them on the bike and run in IMNZ this year. Don’t they make you a bit hot (temperature not looks!) ?

… it depends on the quality. Petr used them at IM Malaysia (hot and humid - see picture above) and he did not have any problems. Once they get wet (due to sweat or water from the aid stations) the fabric cools the skin.
