Just once I’d like a company spokesperson to stand up and say “people need to relax and enjoy the free sample. It was obviously not meant as an insult, just a free product sampleâ€.
Fuck the insincere “sincere apologiesâ€. No one believes it anyway.

It was a poorly thought out product sample choice. I don’t think an apology is necessary but an acknowledgement of the poorly thought out choice should be made.

What’s the point of holding back the apology if they’re already flagellating themselves in public by acknowledging their poorly thought out choice?
Despite advances in medicine, fatphobia is not a condition that can be controlled and those who suffer from it should not be criticized on social media. We demand an apology from the fatties. Did the swimsuit even fit?

Have to wonder if those same people would have complained if the company sent them a gift certificate for a fatburger at McD’s?

To be fair, theirs was a (perhaps intentionally worded) non-apology. The whole “we apologize for hurt you may have felt” thing. They didn’t say “we apologize because we were wrong,” rather they foisted the responsibility for the “harm” onto the consumer. I may not be conveying what I mean, but there you have it. It may all be semantics though.
I agree with you as to the apologies. Also, I can’t wait until people no longer have their hair-trigger “I’m seeking to be offended so I can tweet about it and @ the offending party” mindsets. I don’t know if that will ever happen so long as victimhood = power, but, again, there you have it.
Lastly, this sentence from the article makes zero sense to me: “Victoria’s Secret has come under fire and lost customers for failing to cater to a wide range of customers of different sizes.” Is the article to have me believe that the customers who fit into Victoria’s Secret products have been boycotting in solidarity with their fat (sorry - “of size”) sisters?
