Just put on my snazzy new FSA compacts (Energy - too poor for Carbon). Sweet. If my wife didn’t steal my pump I could go ride the bike now…but I digress. With the new and smaller geometry I notice of course that everything is a bit out of “sync” now. So - those of you that have done this - what is typical? Do I need to shorten the chain at all or just the standard monkeying around with the front and rear deraillers. Any hints? (Off the bat it looks like the front derailler has to come down a couple of mm). Thanks!
Never needed to shorten the chain but had to lower the front der a bit. Like you say - a bit of monkeying around and you should be good again.
I did the same here with the Energy’s. Love um! I lowered my FD and took 1 link out, thats all that was required for me. Your chain might be fine. I had just had a new one put on the bike during a LBS visit and didn’t watch the guy put it on. It was longer than it needed to be to cover the big/big combo even with the stock 53/39. My chain drug the jockey wheels/rd when in the 34/12 combination and I just shortened it, even though I don’t ride that combo. When I get down as low as the 13, the chain rubs the inside of the 50 so I hear feedback that I’m at the end and go ahead and move up to the 50.
Monkeying around ? I got 7 kids from that kind of thing. I wold be very careful. I never used chains though thank God.
