Compact cranks on a P3C?

Has anyone had issues installing FSA SLK compact cranks on the P3C? In particular, the front derailleur hanger might not be low enough. If so, is there a workaround? I’m getting some pushback from the LBS on the feasibility of it, but I’m sure its being done. As I’m not a mechanic by any stretch, I need some help.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

My LBS just called me and they said that they WANTED to install the FSA Compact SLK crank on my just ordered P3SL. Don’t know why, but asked them to proceed that way.

I’m putting FSA Pro crankset on my P3c.

Yes, you are correct. The front derailleur don’t go low enough. However, it is only an issue on the smallest cog for the rear and the crank at 34. I would rearly run the gear from a 34 with the smallest cog in the rear.

Considering I had problems with the front derailleur for my soloist champy as well (changed to Shimano front derailleur) Cervelo should take a look at how their front derailleur design/placement.

OK sorry, I misunderstood the question somewhat. I never use small to small, so I don’t have to worry about the “can’t get front derailleur low enough”.

Also with respect to chain length, if you are using a 34x27 on the small and a 50x11 on the big, you will need a long cage derrailleur for sure. Even with a 25 tooth cog it is borderline.

The LBS called back after talking to Cervelo who said they’d never installed a compact crank on a P3C. I find that hard to believe, but there it is. I told the LBS to go ahead and get the crank and see what happens. This was over his objections about time trial bikes needing big chainrings but frankly I’m not all that strong so I’m sure I won’t run out of gear.

I’m not too worried about chain rub in the 34-12 or whatever because I can’t see myself using a gear like that. I’m excited to finally try a compact crankset, although its a bit anti-climatic to get my new bike only to immediately have to give it back.
